silly question

Hi all,
Could someone please answer a question for me? I’ve got a British chocolate shorthair she a sweet little thing call her my little chocolate muffin. What I want to know is why does she have a small white patch of fur on her belly when the rest of her is chocolate? I know it’s a bit silly really but I was just wondering. As I had a white shorthair once and he had a grey patch on his head the breeder told me this would disappear when he got older which it did. So could anyone help me out please??

Re: silly question

It's not uncommon in solid colour cats, but goodness knows why as the gene for it is supposed to be dominant and therefore should show in the parents. It means you can't show her in pedigree classes (well, not if you want to get anywhere!), that's all.

Liz

Re: silly question

Hi Liz,
Thanks for that we didn't have her to show anyway she's just a pet. But should the breeder have pointed this out when I brought her?
Mandy.

Re: silly question

If she was sold as a pet I don't see why she would need to tell you about the cat's conformation faults. Would you have said no to the kitten based on the kitten have a few white hairs? If so, you should probably think to ask about conformation faults next time as most pet owners don't really care.

I agree _ i don't think Iwould point it out unless the owner wanted to show and then I would say why or why not.
