Balcony + Cats = ?

I have my two cats (see sig), and I live in a flat, so they are indoor cats. However I'd like them to be able to go on the balcony to bathe in the hot sun as I'm sure they'd like it

But im scared they'll try and leap off, I know people will say but cats are clever enough to know it's too high, but I say better safe than sorry!

I think my balcony is 240x220, with a railing that goes about half way up (convexed), the sides are brick, and the 'roof' is concrete.

Originally i thought i could attache a piece of wood to each wall then attach the netting to that. But drilling into the exterior of the building may not go down too well, so I found this

But the description is awful so i have no idea if thats all i need or not, or wether itll fit?

Anyone else have a similiar problem? If so, what have you done?

Re: Balcony + Cats = ?

I'd be worried they could get caught in the net, have you seen my cat run thread, mayb you could get something to enclose the balcony from floor to ceiling??
do you have to share the balcony?

Yer i saw your thread, you thing is awesome! That wouldnt be suitable as the balcony is smallish, and your not supposed to change the appearance of your balcony at all so that'd be too obvious. It's not shared so i can kind of do what i like.

But what you mention is what i want, (enclose f to c). And i think thats what the link in OP does, but the description is just awful :S

I wouldn't be worried about them getting tangled up, as theyd always be supervised, i wouldnt be leaving the doors open all day or anything.

Re: Balcony + Cats = ?

ahhh good thread, I live in a flat also but would like to open the balcony doors from time to time to let some fresh air in!

Alfie is really well behaved as when I do open them I keep a very close eye on him or put his harness and lead on so I can keep hold of him.. but if I turned my back for a second he would be out!

I may enquire, do you have an email/website? it just needs to be discreet really with invisible netting

Yeh I've had a look but it doesnt really show what it would look like.. like you I cant change the appearance of the outside of my flat so a net type thing would be ideal, as long as it didnt look scruffy!

Yer it's annoying, like I said I emailed them so I'll let you know. I think the dimensions are unclear too. It may be too small for me, but I may end up buying it anyway, as I might be able to customize it / copy its design to make my own. If that's the case I could give you a better description & pics as maybe it suit yours? Ebay or something i spose.

Your from chester? isnt that hollyoaks? lol

Re: Balcony + Cats = ?

Funny i thought the same, surely they wont jump, but no, my mums kitten went out on the balcony quite regularly until one day he did jump! It was from the second floor, so i fair height. I dont think they have given him much of a chance to do it again though!
