Re: big cat or fat cat

I think the avg is 4-5kg which is about 8.8-11 pounds so if he's an average moggie i'd say he could be about 4 pounds overweight?!?

Re: big cat or fat cat

Your average adult moggie should weigh around 12 pound so it sounds to me he's 2 pounds overweight.

I just did a google search and found this on animal planet;
Quote:
To determine if your cat is overweight, run your hand along his side. If you can not feel his ribs, it is time to start a weight reduction program. If your cat does not have a waist, that is another indication it is time to start a weight reduction program.

Re: big cat or fat cat

2lb not a lot. Personally I would carry on as you are but keep a careful eye to make sure he doesnt end up needing a crane to get off the sofa hehe.

My cat is very very thin but eats like a horse, she just doesnt put any weight on.

As long as your boy is happy and healthy I wouldnt worry too much

xx

Re: big cat or fat cat

My mom had a Maine coon who wieghed in at 27 pounds but he was big and active his nickname was throw rug for the kitchen floor.

I dont think that to bad, my boyfriends parents have three cats and two are fat fat one to the point that she can barely get thro the cat flap ( she scarpes the fur off he back so shes kinda hairless on her back)
