New kitten

Hi all,

I have a question regarding cat food. The kitten that I have was born on my parents porch (along with her 5 brothers and sisters). She is 7-8 weeks and when she started eating food we gave her regular cat food (not food for kittens). I took her to my apartment 6 days ago and started her on kitten food. I have a feeling its not good for her cause she eats little by little and goes to the bathroom many times a day. also she smells a bit. Should I switch her food? Any reccomendations to which food?

Thanks
Tali

Re: New kitten

Puppy and kitten food is higher in proteins to help with growth/development etc,it will definatly pay in the short and long term to feed her a quality diet.I feed my cats royal canin kitten 34.Has she been wormed recently?

Re: New kitten

so you think we should try a different brand of kitten food? does it upset their tummies if you switch foods on them too often?

Re: New kitten

Maybe put her on a light and fresh food diet(if you can) such as white chicken chopped and mixed with 1/3 of pouch, or sardines with a bit of rice pudding, white fish mixed with 1/3 pouch Pouches will give your kitt smellier poo's-it's a usual given, but as said coz she's only just been wormed this will also contribute Btw Hi Tali and welcomeSwitching to new food and new surroundings can contribute to smelly poo's-she should settle soon though

Hiya!

natures menu kitten food is good, you can get it from pets at home its 65% meat and doesnt contain the harmful fillers that the majority of cat food does. I would wean her to a different food, dont ever change food drastically it will upset her. The worming has probably upset her tum too.

I have to say Royal canin is not good, my cat was on that and felix (4% meat!!) she has very smelly loose poo, its taken me 7 weeks to wean her off them and shes 100% better.

Dry food generally is not great but if you do use it orijen or OrganiPets Organic Pet Food

Re: New kitten

It does upset their tummies if you keep changing food. You should always do it gradually, over a week, slowly adding more of the new food to the old until it's all the new food. I agree with Crofty, Natures Menu is good, they do a kitten version, it's in pink packets. I feed all my cats/kittens that, along with raw mince beef, turkey mince, & rabbit.
