Vaccination side-effects?

Effie has been for her first vaccination today, and has spent most of the afternoon sleeping on either OH's or my lap. She was very playful this morning, and didn't have a nap at all, so I expected her to be tired this afternoon, but she seems to have been sleeping a long time - longer than her usual 'cat' naps (pardon the pun!)

Could this be a side effect of her vaccinations, can they make her a little groggy? OH pointed out that humans can feel weary after jabs (he would say that, he's terrified of needles!) and wondered if it could affect animals in the same way?

I'm not worried or anything, just a tad curious. The vet also noticed that Effie had ear mites, and prescribed some ear drops, which we gave her when we got home, so it could be that she's generally feeling out of sorts this afternoon and therefore seems more sleepy.

Re: Vaccination side-effects?

Hello! Yes, our vet warned us that for the first 24 hours they'd be drowsy ....they were lol. They slept pretty much all the time. Providing it passes after 24 hours, don't worry x

Re: Vaccination side-effects?

I didn't notice my 2 sleeping any more than usual when they had their jabs recently although I did keep an eye on them for 24hrs as I always worry there may be side effects. We got prescribed Stronghold & Canaural ear drops & it's done the trick, their ears are lovely & clear now

Thanks, glad to hear it's nothing unusual. She's up and about now, and playing around so I think she's just had one of those days. :-D

Thanks for the reply, I think Effie's eardrops are those ones, too. She doesn't seem to mind them too much, but is cleaning her head like mad - we figured that she must be able to feel the drops and thinks she needs to get herself clean. Think she's just feeling sorry for herself in general, but she's happily playing around now...Just been told by Effie's Daddy that she's currently re-arranging her freshly-cleaned litter tray!

Re: Vaccination side-effects?

Glad to hear Effie is recovering from her ordeal. Some cats do have reactions to shots, others do not. I have one cat who has to have shots separately as he gets very sick for a couple of days. The other two are tanks and don't seem affected at all.

Thanks, it didn't last too long, she seemed happy enough just very very sleepy! She's definitely back to her usual cheeky self now though.
