Hi everyone

I lost my beautiful poppy on thursday to a road accident. She was just 2 years old. And as ive not been able to have any children myself she was my baby.
I am devestated.
I found her in a black bin liner in a churchyard near my house. It appeared she had been run over, she did not wear a collar so was put in a bag and left for me to find.

I have another cat called spook who is 3 over the past few days she had spent a lot of time out of the house looking for poppy (i believe) . Does anyone know what i can expect from spook? And how long it will take?
And weather having another cat in a couple of months time would help her lonlyness. ? I feel a kitten would be to playful for her and a cat would invade her territory.

To be honest dont really feel i could face having another cat myself.

Lost my cat to cancer but he was 15. The little neutered female that had adopted us spent a lot of time looking for him - going from room to room and in desparation catching a live shrew for him.

It took about 6-8 weeks but I think she has accepted it now - she is a LOT more friendly and I can actually stroke her now which she would never let me do before.

So sorry i can totally sympathise i lost my 12 year old a few weeks back to a rta.Why dont you consider having a indoor cat,you wont have to worry about straying,rta`s,being injured.cats can live perfectly happy lives without having free acess to the outdoors you can cat proof fence your garden or build a run,you can also have total piece of mind that this wont happen again,and you`ll always know where your babies are.

I understand exactly where you are coming from. I am in a similar situation. I lost my cat Jasper over a week ago he had a large in-operable tumour in his mouth, he was 14 years old. Our dog Duke became depressed constantly whimpering, grunting and going to the side door sniffing the air looking for him.

It took him just over a week to settle but if we mention Jaspers name he becomes alert and runs to the side door, quite excitedly, so we still have to be careful not to mention his name.

You may find spook is a bit allusive needing her own space. I couldn't advise on whether another companion would be right for spook, what if it wasn't. I think you would be the one to decide whether you wanted another cat.

Some people will disagree with me but everyone deals with a bereavement differently. We went to look at a litter of kittens literally one week later, we have 3.5 weeks to wait and counting before he comes home. He is not a replacement because life doesn't work like that, he will have his own unique character and personality.

I haven't lost a cat in a rta but I am aware of the potential danger as the volume of traffic has increased.

I am not sure if this post will help its only my personal experieces.

Oh Dawn, so sorry to read this and know my thoughts are with you and Spook and cyber hugs have been sent Spook will adapt quicker than you think and maybe when your ready yourself then think more about if you want another cat/kitty,if your not sure now-don't yet as it's maybe a little soon,but Spook will be fine with lots of cuddles and plays from you

Thanks you have all been very helpful.
Spook has gone the oposite way and is very loving always wanting to sit on my lap and be fussed. I guess it will take time. I have also found the other cats from the close are hanging about my house. Sometime 4 or 5 of them. I guess my poppy had a life of her own.

So sorry for you loss, i know it is hard when you lose them @ any time,
I also have lost cats to road traffic accidents, thats why i now have and Breed indoor cats only,
