Lupin&co is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: House cats

I used to be very pro-outdoor, but I have since come to the conclusion that it just depends on the cat. My last cat was mad for going outside, and would actually get very depressed & aggressive if he couldn't go out, no matter how much I played with him. Lupin will go outside a bit, but doesn't ever sit at the door crying to get out & seems perfectly happy to mess about the house, and survey his property from the windows. Cats are individuals like us, I guess.

Re: House cats

I have a persian at 15 mths old and he has always been a house cat but he has a small shed with a run attached and occasionally goes into the garden on a harness. This works well and he is also very safe .

Re: House cats

Both my Maine Coons are outdoor cats with free access day and night. I couldn't keep them in if I tried now! We are in a rural location with open fields to two sides and a very quiet Cul-de-Sac. Our two absolutley love the outdoor life and I would hate to keep them in. We have kept cats here for the last 20 years without incident from cars or wildlife. About the only trouble I get is muddy feet and a steady stream of mice, rats, birds.......

BUT.

My Brother lives a few miles away and has lost two cats to cars in the last couple of years. I guess we all must make the best decision based on what's best for our cats.

Dexter & his favorite spot:

Re: House cats

The modern world is no longer feline compatible, so really keeping them indoors is the only option for most people, unless you live in the right location. I have a cat run and a small garden that is cat proofed, if they want fresh air.

If anyone says to you its cruel to keep them indoors, ask them if they let their kids wander the streets by themselvs. Playing out for most of the day used to be the done thing, but not anymore. Times change, sometimes sadly not for the best.
