Re: This makes me cross

Yes I agree with you Crofty - utterly thoughtless. I agree with the principle of what Jens is saying - the numpty ought to be punished but a plane crash is a bit too ......... quick. Michelle's idea is definitely in the right direction in that it is more - pardon the pun - drawn out but it might be useful to have something happen over a period of time that will make them think a bit more.

Re: This makes me cross

It's very selfish... you dont just decide to go live abroad... so obviously there's been no thought involved getting the kitten.

That poor little thing, hope it finds a nice home with a responsible owner

Re: This makes me cross

Its the same old story, and I don't believe it, this person has taken on a pet that involves more time than the owner realised. I think this is the problem with all unwanted animals they loose their small cuteness and become a large handful during their young adulthood.

There is the other end of the scale too when an animal becomes old and treatment/vet fees rise plus the additional time patients and care that is required.

There are the other reason for unwanted pets; doesn't get on with other pets and/or children. Sorry its bulls**t yes problem do occur the key is time patience and training for both animals and children.

When we go to collect Sooty our new kitten I am taking my grandson with us, he needs to understand/learn how to behave around a kitten to enable them to play safely together as we did and still do with Duke our dog.

Its hardwork but great fun and the reward pays dividends.

I'll be honest where we have got Sooty from we weren't asked any questions as to our suitability as owners, the position/location of our house whether there will be young children etc etc., all the questions you guys would ask. I know Sooty will be coming to a good and safe home and he will have a home here for life. I have seen a thread regarding cat runs which I intend to follow up, in view of the Road outside our house which is a bus route and school run.

More forethought is needed by prospective owners, people should be aware of lifetime commitment of approximately 15 years.

Totally agree, when ive brought home all my pets ive always smiled at the thought of that commitment, whereas some people get them home and think "oh my god what have i done" Its something they should have thought about before bringing the pet home!
