Insurance..

Hi all,

I've been looking for insurance for my kitten and have checked pretty much all of the big insurers, and I've noticed that many of them require the cat to be vaccinated against feline leukemia, which has been linked to an aggressive cancer called fibrosarcoma.

As my cat will be indoors and in a cat-proofed garden he won't risk being infected with feline leukemia, so it seems wrong to me to risk him getting cancer from the vaccine when he won't ever be at risk of contracting the disease.

Does anyone know how picky insurers generally are when it comes to this? Has anyone been refused payment on their insurance because a vaccine was missing?

C

Re: Insurance..

I'll get a right rocket for this post. None of my pets have been insured.

All my pets (dogs and cats) have never really had any problems. The odd course of antibiotics which I can count on one hand.

I choose the type of annual vaccine for my pets. ie Jasper we knocked off the cat leukemia vaccine, due to his age and the high risk.

I have paid for all their treatments and can honestly say the most expensive time in my pets lives have been during their twilight years and insurances tend to pull the plug for long term illnesses/treatments.

A prime example is Jasper our cat died on 25 April 2008 he was 14, I paid for him to be neutered, his annual jabs, frontline, worming pips, a course of antibiotic when he got cat influenza that then became part of his annual innoculations, arthritis treatment which turned out to be a soft tissue injury and unfortunately the ending which was due to a large tumour that was discovered too late.

Sue

Re: Insurance..

Hi there i choose not to insure my small animals, because i have so many it would just be un-economical and expensive, instead i put some money away each month into a seperate emergency account,so if all goes well and no accidents my money is still mine.

Re: Insurance..

Hi, its so refreshing to hear that I am not alone in not insuring my little ones too. I always put some spare cash away every month in case I need it for them but it would be over too much to justify that every month, if they need help they get it and I use my savings. My sister works for an insurance company but even she has recommended my course of action as the best!

Re: Insurance..

I use petplan.. it's £10 a month and that covers dental treatment, any surgical treatment, tests etc basically anything up to £4000.

It's just a peice of mind as the vets round here wouldn't let me pay big bills off in instalments either
