Re: Insurance..

Most breeders will have the kitten insured for 6 weeks from when you get him anyway.. so you've got a bit of time to do some research.

Re: Insurance..

Right well I wont insure my own cos I got too many and the cost of treating them is about level now with what the insurance costs would be..........

However, if I only had up to about say 5 or 6 cats then I would insure them all. I started out with Petplan and have claimed off them and they paid out with no problems whatsoever.

In view of that I can recommend them 100% and as a breeder can also give out cover notes for the first 6 weeks for the kittens new owner without any qualms at all!

Re: Insurance..

hi

I dont have my cats insured as they are indoor cats - so i also put a bit away for them - however i do have my dogs insured - i started out with petplan and they are ok - but to be honest i found another called healthy pets and they have pretty much the same cover as petplan (they too also only insure pets) and they cut my monthly bill nearly in half - they are definetly worth looking at. I know they will take dogs that havent been vaccinated as my dad also insures with them and he doesnt jab his - they are fine with this but say they wont pay out for illness they could have been vaccinated against - which personally i think is fair enough.... hope this helps.

Re: Insurance..

I picked up a leaflet for Petplan from Pet at Home, they are offering one month's free insurance.

Everyone manages their finances differently, for some people insurance offers peace of mind and there is nothing wrong with that, its sensible, financial circumstances can change.

Re: Insurance..

If I only had a couple of cats, I would put them throught pet plan. I have claimed off them once and found them very efficient, and I also provide my new owners with their 6 week cover note. However because of how many I have, I put all money from kitten sales in my 'cat account' and that goes to all the vet treatment. I usually end up at a loss and having to slap it on the old credit card but there you go. Profit from cat breeding, not seen it yet! rolleyes:

My kitten with the prolapsed rectum that had an op last weekend, the blooming thing has come out again so she will have to go back in for yet another op. Dreading the bill. So if you only have, say up to 4 pets I would well advise getting them insured

Re: Insurance..

Thanks for the responses everyone! When I first posted this I was sure I wanted insurance, but after reading all this I'm not so sure anymore, hehe. Like Trish my kitten also comes with 6 weeks insurance, so at least he's covered for that first, stressful time of moving to a new family.

I guess I'll have to do some more thinking..at least I've still got a long time until I have to decide
