Newbie kitten owner

I am getting a kitten next weekend. Its from a friend of a friend who cant keep him. I have been shopping and got what he will need ready for his arrival.
Because I am in a flat I have decided to put his bed in the kitchen, should his food be left in with him when I close the door and go to bed? Also I am putting his litter box in a quiet place away from the kitchen, does he need access to this during the night or should he be ok till morning. My friends cat doesnt have access to the litter box or food during the night, she sleeps in the living room.

Re: Newbie kitten owner

Congrats on your baby I personally let my cats sleep with me and have access to the whole house (except the rat room) they should have water all the time and a toilet as we do.. If you don't want her in the whole house at night why not put her and her litter tray bed food and water and toys in the bathroom or one room..

Yes, he will definitely need access to a litter tray at all times, kittens need everything within easy reach to avoid accidents Like Waterlily, all my cats sleep wherever they want at night, and that is usually my bed LOL!

Ditto the above post, my 2 nutters seem to eat, poop and play more when we are sleeping!

Re: Newbie kitten owner

to be honest i put my kitty in a small room with all his bits for the first day or so so it wasnt to much of a shock and they learn where there safe room is with there tray etc is. It was only for the first 2 nigts then i opened the door and let him wander. Didnt take long before he was al oover. They do tend to have a tendendency to jump on you at nigt when very young playing so you may find it distrubs your sleep . There toatally short away as they get to 10 12 weeks or so mine is now 8 months and still has his play times bombing about like a lone. Have fun they grow up so quickly.

Re: Newbie kitten owner

I'd make sure that the kitten has access to the litter tray at all times or else you might wake up in the mornings to a little 'present'. My cat has access to the whole house during the night except our bedroom, at first we used to let her come in but she never stayed asleep for very long and night seems to be her favourite time for running up and down the stairs and in and out of rooms like a nutter. We just close the door now and leave her to it until morning, much more peaceful that way

Congrats on getting the kitten by the way, bet you can't wait for him to arrive - i love shopping for all their bits and bobs, spend way too much money though!

Re: Newbie kitten owner

awww he looks a little like my narla!!
i got her sunday and since then when we go bed or go out i put her in the large downstairs toilet with her bed, litter tray, food and water oh and toys!!
i make sure the toilet lid is down tho as ive heard of accidents where kittys have fallen down the toilet.
she has been fine with this and is now venturing around the house i will give her a couple of weeks of this then let her have free roam.
