Question Would u say this is normal behavour for a recently done cat?

Ive just picked up Horris from the vets as he was fixed finally yesterday

They said he completly stinked out there holding room and he was microchiped at the same time.

Ive got him home and when he first got out of his carrier he was completly soaked in his own urine. He got in a smacking fight with Decker but everything seemed ok. But as soon as he saw Tidbit he went charging at her, grabed her by the kneck with his teeth and tried to "mount" her. Of caorse tidbit is sooo tiny she cant really fight him off. He just seems to be more aggressive with her. Ive had to seperate them would u say this is normal?

Re: Would u say this is normal behavour for a recently done cat?

The vets have said that to give him a few weeks to sort out the humping issue. And also a week to sort out his smell as he is a very smelly tom.

I just hope he gets over it, hes my first boy cat so i had no idea what to expect plus it doesnt help that he can be aggresive anyway. Hes seem fine with everyone else.

Im guessing it may also be down to tidbit not being fixed but shes to young and she hasnt gone into heat :S

Re: Would u say this is normal behavour for a recently done cat?

When our tom (Elvis) was neutered, the vet suggested it could take up to a month for his behaviour to calm down. When we took him home, he was absolutely crazy, running around the house, jumping all over Bea. This, it turns out, was just how he responded to being brought round from the anaesthetic.
The vet was pretty much spot on about his behaviour though - after a month the excessive 'mounting' seemed to cease. He still occassionally attempts to 'mount' Bea when they play, but she's wise to his games!

So, to answer your second question. Yeah it's pretty normal, if Elvis is anything to go by!

Depends how old your cat was when neutered. Remember there will still be hormones in his blood and these take about 6 weeks to disperse.

Don't want to worry you but it is possible for a recently neutered boy to get an un-spayed female pregnant......

He was just operated on yesterday. He is roughly four years give or take a bit. Before he was fixed he still tried humping her but we would just seperate them, it didnt happen very often. And when we leave he goes into the garage. But right now he seems to have a one track mind

So from what people are saying it seems I have one month to go roughly for him to calm down.

Re: Would u say this is normal behavour for a recently done cat?

I wouldnt worry to much as its very early days mine was done around 5 weeks ago and i can really tell a difference in him already hes a lot more calmer other than the normal play sessions and hes not jumping on the dog as much as he was. Give him a bit of time im sure it will help him settle a bit. All them raging hormones will settle down a bit now.

Re: Would u say this is normal behavour for a recently done cat?

The tom cat smell definitely goes - one of my rescue cats was "done" just before I got him & I was horrified that his pee smelt "Tom". It took 1 or 2 weeks to go, but now there's no smell (thankfully)! I was told the same as someone else mentioned - it takes about 6 weeks to get rid of all the hormones in their body - he should have calmed down a lot before that though
