Re: Insurance Question
All I can advise is that you do a lot of research & make sure you compare like with like! I've got lifetime policies for all of my cats (5!), but even "lifetime" policies differ. The cheapest pet insurance policies tend to be x amount or 12 months, whichever comes first. A lifetime policy should be just that, cover the pet for their whole life whether or not you've made a claim & no matter the age of your pet. Check that the amount paid is per year, not per illness. One of my cats (who's only 6) has recently been admitted as an emergency patient to a vet hospital after starting with seizures & it was also found to have had a stroke - don't know which came first. She's doing really well, but has had two spells in hospital. My policy pays £7000 for vet treatment per year, this resets at each renewal date, so each policy year £7000 is paid out if needed. So far, Saffy's first spell in hospital including tests (MRI scan, blood tests, ultrasound, intensive care treatment) came to about £2500, I haven't had the bill for the second spell yet, but think it'll be around £1000. She's also going to need another MRI scan (about £1000) soon. She is insured with M&S & they pay the claim direct to the vet if you want them to. They've paid up quickly with no problems. Theirs used to be a really good (& reasonably priced) policy, but it's really increased in price & has changed some of it's conditions now. I've stuck with them for two of my cats as I've already claimed for them - if I moved their policies they wouldn't cover their pre existing conditions. I've got another two cats with Axa & one with Petplan. You hope that you never have to claim, but if you do, the costs are high & mount up very quickly. Good luck - it's a pain doing the research, but it will be worth it in the long run.
