Smile Introducing a cat outised

hi everyone. i need advice ASAP!!

i am introducing my cat Rupa to the big outdoors this weekend. He is a Bengal about 8months old.

the problem is that he is a bit mad and has trouble controlling his behaviour around humans, other cats etc. he is not wild, its just that he would rather dive in head first than approach carefully!

i am worried that it wont take long for him to get lost, injured or worse.

Although he does usually respond when called- i have never tried this outside so a bit afraid he will just run away!!

Advice please!

Thanks

Re: Introducing a cat outised

I am assuming you mean outside to free-roam, then if he were mine-no way-if he's entire(not neutered) he will be off and getting into scrapes,it's dangerous as he's not been out before so he's not used to roads, other cats etc plus he could pick up all sorts of diseases, maybe get a harness for him and take him out on that-this way he gets to go out in a safe way

You're letting a Bengal outside??

He will get stolen hun, can't you build an out door secured enclosure for him?

Hi hun - if he has never been out before he will not know what he is missing anyway. You wont be doing him any harm by keeping him in. Just make sure he has plenty of toys etc

Yeh as long as you have scratch posts, climbing frames for him he will be fine. It's really not worth letting him outside, it would be heart breaking if something happened to him

He's probably just needing to be neutered(assuming he isn't)once he is i'm sure he'll calm down lots

Re: Introducing a cat outised

thanks for the advice everyone. He has been neutered and it didnt calm him down at all! in fact, the vet and cattery are always over the moon when he pays a visit telling me he has the 'biggest personality' of any cat they have ever known!

there really is no choice here- either i move to a bigger house or i let him outside- its just a question of how to do it safely.

Fortunately he is microchipped and insured...

Re: Introducing a cat outised

I had a snow bengal x BSH called Alfie. I used to let him out as we live at the end of town and the only thing behind us is allotments and fields.
He had been going out for about 8 months and all of a sudden he went out one day and has never come back. He was microchipped!
Its now been a year and still no sign. I am convinced someone has him somewhere and is keeping him as an indoor cat
I would hate for this to happen to anyone else. I now keep all my cats indoors or in the outdoor house.
I had to learn the hard way unfortunately, hopefully you will take the advice above and you wont have to!
