Re: Pet shops

We had 2 pet shops in our town.
The one that has thankfully closed down, used to sell kittens, and I don't think their care was much cop. A friend said they had reported them more than once.
The remaining shop is part of a chain and all the pets are well cared for.
They sell rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats and birds. They don't sell kittens.
In a nearby town, the same chain's pets are also well cared for.
Over the road from them is an independent pet shop.
They sell rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and kittens.
Again all the pets are well cared for.
The kittens have quite a large area - say 7' x 3'.
Sometimes there are 5 or 6 kittens, but you can tell they are litter mates.
As much as I don't like the idea of pet shops selling animals and birds, we were oh sooo tempted the other week.
Fortunately, we didn't have £95 spare, or I would have a divine splotchy tortoiseshell and white kitten on my lap as I type!

Re: Pet shops

Hiya

I saw you post and did some investigating. Sadly the only "rule" the councils give to pet shops for their license is this
11.1 No mammal shall be sold unweaned or, if weaned, at an age at which it should not have been weaned.

So basically as long as they are weaned and have not been "forcibly" weaned they can sell them, which in my opinion sucks! I think they should have a definate age and maybe even a certificate to prove their age (although i know some people would lie about it) before they can sell them.

Well legally the kittens were probably old enough . As you said this stinks, so a puppy or kitten which can in theory be weaned at 3/4 weeks can then be sold, sickening. Thanks for looking it up.
