Re: Pet shops

I don't know why but this just reminded me of something...

When we lived in Tanzania they used to sell things at the traffic lights, holding them up to your windows when you stopped at the red light. One of the things they held up was puppies... poor little things looked so hot I felt so sorry for them

Re: Pet shops

I have a hard time going into pet stores because the animals always look so miserable and it makes me want to buy them all. I have to remind myself "Just here for the litter. Get in, get out!"

I'm pretty sure that if I bought one more cat, there would be nothing stopping me from buying fifty.

You mean buy them. So then the pet shop owner can replace them with even more?

If anyone sees poorly kept animals in a pet shop, report it to the local council who issue their licenses and also to the RSPCA. A visit by the council or RSPCA can make pet shop owners wake their ideas up and improve, even if no action is taken.

I know exactly what you mean, you only have to check out the number of animals in my signature to see how hard it was for me to walk out without those kittens.

Re: Pet shops

There are two or three big chain pet stores near my home and for the most part, it seems as though the larger animals and critters are very well cared for, but one of the stores is always getting in trouble for how it treats fish. They cram close to 100 tiny fish into one tank and then they act surprised when they all drop dead. To make matters worse, they don't clean the dead fish out with any regularity so there are tons of floaters, blocking the live fish from getting to the surface to eat. Ugh. It's disgusting.

You'd think that you have a tank with two discus fish in it and one of them is dead, if you hope to sell the other fish, you would pull out the dead one. I don't know about you, but when I'm looking for a healthy animal, I'm not going to pick the one circling a floater.
