I reckon that's a myth, I've always switched all my animals food without doing it gradually, never ever had a problem!

I already feed all the dogs raw!

Re: Dry Cat Food....

I found with Jasper I had to introduce him to different foods gradually, for some cats its not a myth.

Whiskers had brought out pouches in gravy, sounded good I bought a box which supplied him for the week, he was laid between both hubby and me when trump and follow through, at the same time Jasper shot off the settee. I can laugh now it missed hubby got me square on.

Seriously though I did avoid that particular range of Whiskers and introduced him gradually to new or different brands. Some foods would make him physically sick, and I am not referring to hair/fur balls.

I have learned something new, I assumed manufactured cat food was specially formulated and had all the necessary ingredients for a balanced diet. Which type you choose to feed your cat depended on the cats pallet.

I will be more choosy which brands to buy for my new kitten.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Sue

Re: Dry Cat Food....

ha ha yeh I have to be carefull switching Alfie's food as he has a sensitive tummy.

I had him on felix pouches and he kept throwing up after eating them, I thought it was hair balls.

Got him on Almo Nature Kitten Food off Zooplus.co.uk. It's all natural ingredients.. I keep him on the Royal Canin mainly and add the wet food for his breakfast and tea.

He's thriving off it and touch wood has stopped being sick!

Its not a myth at all, any animal especially with a delicate tum shouldnt be switched onto a completely different diet straight away. betz was having very loose stool and i was not going to upset her more, she had been on felix for 3 years and been used to it, i would have been mad to switch her immediately im sure that just common sense? Also if a cat is used to a food unless you are very lucky they arent always eager to change so by doing it gradually so they dont notice they develop a taste for the new food. I dont know about changing from a cat food to a raw diet however because i have not done that myself.

Most of it can also be applied to cat food!
I looked on this thread yesterday and clicked on the link in this post, hey ho I get around a bit don't I

Anyway we are getting a kitten soon and like everyone I want the best for him so I looked for the food suggested on this thread Royal Canin and/or Orijen couldn't find either in the Supermarket. I intend to look in Pets at Home unless there is only certain outlets that sell it.

Re: Dry Cat Food....

Hi, you can buy royal canin in Pets at Home no problem. Not sure about Orijen however, I personally have not seen that....but am happy sticking with RC. The thread was originally about the quality of Pets at Home own brand of food (ie not the Branded ones like Royal Canin)....and the thread has travelled many miles since! Hey ho!

I must have missed the point of the thread what would you advise as the best food for a kitten. My other poor beggers got Whiskers and Brekkies, I thought I was doiing the right thing.
