Re: Dry Cat Food....

Have a look at my thread in the nutrition section on whats in your cats food. I have researched this as my cat i adopted was on royal canin, iams and felix, not good!!

What you should look at is
no corn no gluten no soya no beet no garlic no onion no wheat no dairy.
YOU MUST HAVE TAURINE in there whether it is added or natural. If there is a high natural chicken content including offal you will probably have enough occurance naturally.

Its good you are researching this, shows you are a responsible owner

So that just leaves Orijen then!

Re: Dry Cat Food....

Yeah I totally agree with the link, I tried to feed mine just a natural raw diet but they are so awkward/stubborn they wouldn't have it so they get Orijen down all day and raw meat (chicken, beef and lamb) three times a day. Maybe one day I will get to just feeding raw but for now it's just not happening.

Also agree that it looks a lot better than most foods but I prefer Orijen as it doesn't have rice in.

Smile Re: Dry Cat Food....

I think feeding a raw diet is quite hard to get right, but would be ideal in an ideal world

Re: Dry Cat Food....

I've been thinking about what to feed my kitten once I get him.. and came across that article you linked Crofty. It all made perfect sense to me, so I've decided to give it a try.

I've found this website The Feline Future Cat Food Company which sells basically a powder that you mix with raw meat and liver.

For convenience I'll be feeding a mix of that and Applaws wet food, hope it'll work out! Otherwise I've got Orijen dry food as a backup Not sure what my kitten is used to eating yet, so will have to wait and see how it goes!

It wouldn't be hard if they'd eat it, if I ever got another kitten I would feed it raw from day one as ours are so used to the lazy way (biscuits) that they refuse to crunch bones. They will only eat cut up meat.

Re: Dry Cat Food....

Yes Betz is not a bone cruncher! You have to be careful with hygiene aswel having raw food around, especially if you have children.

Whatever you do with food dont change food straightaway it muct be gradually done.
