Charlie and Lola with us at last.....

Hi
We brought Charlie and Lola home yesterday. We chose them at 3 weeks old and they will be 10 weeks on Monday so we waited ages to get them.

We went to see them about 3 times during the 7 weeks and they didn't seem to mind being picked up, Charlie more so than Lola. The breeder said they were handling them a lot and they have 2 other cats and a dog so they were not shy.

But, since we have brought them home they don't like us picking them up. I know it is early days but I can't help comparing them to Ted and Dusty who were loving and affectionate from day 1. They used to climb up my jeans to try and be picked up and if you sat at the table they would be on you in a flash. Charlie and Lola seem to be settling ok, they are a little jumpy but I suppose that is to be expected, and if you put your hand out to stroke them they walk away. They do come to us for a sniff and were jumping up on us on the sofa last night but didn't settle for a cuddle or anything. If we now start handling them a lot, do you think they will change or is 10 weeks a little late now. I didn't get them to replace Ted and Dusty, no cats can do that, but I did want them to enjoy their cuddles.

Has anyone else experienced shy kittens when they first brought them home but then turned out okay. I know I am worrying a little early, if this was someone else posting I would probably reply to say that lol!

Re: Charlie and Lola with us at last.....

i have one cat who i inherited from my gran.i was more than happy to have him.i do remember when my gran got him first and he hated everything and everyone for the first few weeks.it was quite stressful.he hid behind the couch for a week then ventured further in to the house but wolud run when he saw anyone.
now i cant get him off me lol he is the cuddliest cat.he still likes his alone time and if hes not in the mood to be picked up he will let me know with a certain look.most evenings he spends either on my lap or on my husbands lap or between us.

sometimes cats can be more sociable in their original environment and get scared because of the new surroundings and smells but they usually come round with gentle coaxing and a little time to get used to where they are

Dont worry, it just takes a little time for them to settle somewhere new.
When i got my kitten she was 16 weeks old and wouldnt even venture out of my daughters bedroom for over a week or like being picked up.
I was so worried that she would be a nervous cat.
But after about 3 weeks she was always hassling me for cuddles and had to be held like a baby on her back and having her tummy rubbed.

Ah thanks guys. I know I am probably worrying unduly. I really shouldn't compare them to Ted and Dusty they were exceptional cats. They are quite good if I think about it. They are coping really well actually. I am just being impatient waiting for my cuddles.

Thanks again
