Food for a "squitty" kitten?

Hi, we are currently feeding it on Hills: Prescription diet I/d, and it is doing OK on this. But it is a tad expensive, and was just wondering if anyone knows of anything that I could try him on, that isn't so expensive?

Thanks for any and all help, Michelle.

My new kitty has the squits too so I am just feeding her plain boiled chicken for a day or so until "it" firms up! What food is he usually eating?

he has been on stuff from the vets costing 14 pounds a week for nearly a month so trying to find a cheaper alternative got 2 others to feed that only cost that much between them

If you dont mind me asking what did the vet say was wrong with him ? Sounds very expensive!

Re: Food for a "squitty" kitten?

I have to be honest i am always suspicious of Hills due to the mark up the vet gets for selling it, Id want to know why the cat needed a special diet & what was in the food he was trying to sell me or what it was that my cat needed to avoid & look else where,
if they have not given you a diagnosis & fell that it is just a general squitt problem id be giving a plain cooked chicken diet for a few days & then gently re introducing the kittens normal food, to see if that worked, if not id be back to the vet for further investigations

Re: Food for a "squitty" kitten?

their wasnt really a diagnosis but whenever i took him off the hills, within hours the diahreah was back. Because of how bad it was the first time i didnt want to risk his health.I also have the sister who is fine on anything Igive her I am going to try some plain boiled chicken and see how that goes If i bought raw stuff from food 4 cats do i cook it first or give it raw? Not sure if raw might upset him even more

Re: Food for a "squitty" kitten?

Hi, I would try him on the chicken but maybe you can get his food more cheaper online? Vets do overcharge on food etc.

As for RAW feeding, you don't cook anything they eat it raw ... it's meant to be healthier for them, although he may have an upset tummy to start with as its a change of food.

I would check out prices on Hills to see how cheap you can get it especially if he's ok on it.
