Re: Advice needed RE stray tom!

He sounds like a stray but you can never be too sure, I'd go with the collar & note attached idea first. If you take him to the vet you might find he's been microchipped.

Might pester hubby again and see what he thinks!
this to m sounds like he hasnt had a very good life to begin with. and any owner he had doesnt seem very nice if he cowers like this. i no cats can be skittish but this sounds like he has a past of bein beatin. i wud jst keep him, if someone has lost him they can put flyers up or attempt to find him

Re: Advice needed RE stray tom!

i'm with hayley on this one our stray in the front garden will let me pet him etc and walks right up to me at feeding times but the rest of the time he is a little standoffish and god forbid you try and lift him ha ha he would have your hand off but he doesnt cower if i raise my hand or jump he just watches what i do and then decides whether to stroll off or come and see what i am up to. your poor boy sounds like he has been on the wrong side of someone

Re: Advice needed RE stray tom!

If there is no way you can find the owner (collar/microchip etc) then go ahead with the op. If he does have an owner I can't believe they would let him get into such a condition. Good on you x

Re: Advice needed RE stray tom!

He's a black and white cat with patches of tabby on his head and shoulders green eye and a squint (due to the bad one) very cute litle thing. Not that big considering he's a tom, but then our other two are females and very big so i can't really compare him to them!

Still making myself ill worrying about 'damaging' someone elses pet (I know how i'd feel if someone took it upon themselves to look after one of our other two)

I think as you said we've done about all we can now, checked at the vets for signs, had him scanned for a chip, asked locally and around the village if anyone knows who's he is. I suppose i just need to think that I'm only doing what's best for him.

Might go and pick up a little collar today to give that a go (I'm sure that will make him run a mile!)

Re: Advice needed RE stray tom!

Once you get his collar then you can relax & know you did everything to try and find his owners. He's a very lucky cat to have found you! good luck

Re: Advice needed RE stray tom!

Yes I would try the collar first, after all if it was my cat i'd be happier he came home a little bit scared with a collar on than without an eye

Good luck

Re: Advice needed RE stray tom!

OK, the collars on! I've tied a cream ribbon to it with our number on it in bold black numbers so it's easily seen (not something hubby is impressed about - having our number travelling the village!)

Amazingly puss wasn't in the least bit bothered when I put it on him and will even let me tighten/slacken it now it's on! I'm assuming he's had one in the past? Decided to do it alone to lessen the stess on him and he was good as gold.

Will keep you posted!
