Question Clamidia

Hi
Took my boys to the vets today to be checked over and registered as we have not long since they have only been with us a short time. Anyway to the point Alfie has a slightly rinny eye the breeder thought he may have been scratched play fighting, the vet seems to think he may have Clamidia in his eye. We have got antibiotic drops and we will see how he goes.
Alarm bells startd to ring when he said Henry could also catch it. He then went on to say we needed to be carefull and make sure the children wash their hands after playing or stroking the boys. Although the Clamidia isnt passed as Clamidia as we know it in humans it can cause conjunctivitis in humans does anyone have any experience in this. Help please im really worried as i have two small children and although they are very good at hand washing they cant be watched constantly.

I wouldnt worry too much, the actual risk of a human getting conjuctivitis after contact with a cat with Chlamidya is very low. I'm sure just encouraging the kids to do their normal handwashing will be fine. This article about it is quite good fabcats : Chlamydophilia in cats

Re: Clamidia

I just had a litter of kittens diagnosed with it, it sounds scary but it's easily treatable and not that contagious to humans. I would suggest you treat both of them though, it will save you the worry if the other one has syptoms later on.
