Absolutely devastated :-(

I was concerned when Fluffy didn't come for his breakfast this morning, so left him some food on the back step. Then as I was just driving off to work I saw him, lying on the path at the side of the house! Both my children were in the car with me. My 11 yr old jumped out and ran to him, I ran over too but was pretty sure he was dead. He was still warm though so I grabbed the cat carrier and rushed him to the vets, but it was too late. She thinks he had probably been hit by a car and had massive internal injuries

My 11 yr old is completely devastated and inconsolable. My H has come home from work and they are digging a hole together in the garden to bury him,. My 4 yr old is very quiet, think it's only just sinking it that he's gone. I feel so sad for my children, Fluffy was their Christmas present - he was only 10 months old

I've taken the day off too - couldn't send them to holiday club when they were so upset. I am so sad to think of him suffering, he was so cute and I will miss him waking me up by jumping on me in the morning. The worst thing is I told H to get him in last night when we went to bed, but he said 'oh he'll be ok' - famous last words! Wish we could turn the clock back.

Re: Absolutely devastated :-(

so, so sorry to hear of your loss. You must all be devastated. It sounds like he lived in a family who loved him very much and he was a lucky cat.

As time goes on you will think of the happy and funny memories of him, even though it hurts so much now.

I think kids get over this kind of thing more easily than adults do so be there for them but don't worry too much.

*hugs*

Abi xx

Re: Absolutely devastated :-(

Hi Trellis,

I am so sorry about Fluffy, what an awful thing to happen. I would encourage your kiddies to talk it out with you, especially your four year old.It will help no end to get their feeling out in the open. Lots of cuddles off me for your kiddies, we lost a cat earlier this year very suddenly, its was devastating, the kids were absolutely floored by the suddeness of it all.

Maybe in time you can get another kitten once you have had time to grieve for your loss. I hope you are all ok.Eventually you will be able to smile about your memories of Fluffy and they will make you feel better.

RIP Fluffyxxxx

Izzie

Re: Absolutely devastated :-(

I think burying him has been helpful for my son, he seems much calmer now, though obviously still very sad. When we first left the vets he was crying and saying he never wanted another pet cos he couldn't take it, but now he is talking about maybe getting another cat soon, though says it'll never be as good as Fluffy.

My daughter just keeps saying 'he was my very first pet' and is a bit quiet, but I think she'll bounce back quicker than my son. I really feel for him because he starts secondary school next week and is really anxious about it so this has been an added blow for him.

Seems so unfair for this to happen to him, he was only a baby really! They are going to make him a tomb stone to put on top of where we buried him.

He was a really pretty cat, black & white with a bushy tail - quite timid with strangers but a real character with us, he will be sorely missed!

I am so sorry for your loss. R.I.P Fluffy.

You poor kids. They should recover quite well though. I agree about talking it out with them. The buriel was a great idea too.

You could tell your son Fluffy will be looking down on him from heaven and will be supporting him on his first day of big school. I hope it goes well for him, it is pretty scary.

Condolences to you all
