Re: My Daughter wont stop...

I have three amazingly soppy cats who've been handled plenty since they were kittens. They call for fuss as soon as I get in and one wont stop till i've picked him up and hugged him for ages.

However... they will not be touched outside of the house! They shy away from contact with anyone if it's outdoors, even me! So don't panic too much about someone wandering off with him, he might be the same as mine?

I once told my brother if he kept picking up my cats they'd chew his face off in the night... but I suspect you may not want to alarm your daughter this much Have you tried bribery? My next plan after scaring my brother was to work on a merit system e.g. if he didn't touch my cats, he got sweets or a small toy.

Re: My Daughter wont stop...

i have a 5yr old and a 3yr old. I actively encourage them to handle our pets. They know with my fosters they arent to touch unless they approach them, and there is one of my cats they know not to approach but the others love the fuss and attention.

I'm a bit confused as to why you think your kitten will be sore?

Teach your kids the proper handling techniques - that will save any problems, make sure you have consequenses in place if they break the rules. When i was teaching my son how to handle kittens if he broke the rules he went without his next treat - whether that be his fave tv programme (thomas ), his desert at dinner, his afternoon snack, trip to the park ... you get the idea. Anyway it soon clicked that if he didnt do it properly he went without!

My kids have certain toys that only they play with the cats with - they love it and the cats do too!

Yeah my big cat doesnt go to anybody outside but the kitten does hes quite forward lol and hes so cute i dont want anyone running off with him.

I wouldnt mind my daughter picking him up but if it was only a couple of times a day she contantly after him, when hes in the litter when hes eaten, when hes sleeping i just feel like she gives him no peace. she is the type of child that does not listen lol 5 going on 15 x

Is the kitten a special breed? I have never heard of anyone stealing kittens/cats but I suppose it does happen! I always see friendly cats around who will come up to you in the street so I can see why you're worried

Re: My Daughter wont stop...

I often have my 6 years old niece round and i am forever tellin her to leave Sheldon alone. He had a bad experience with children when he was a kitten and i no he doesnt like her. However when shes quiet he will allow her to scratch his belly.

When he's outisde he scarpers when he sees ppl into the bushes. i have to show him its me if hes still in the bushes.

i wudnt worry about it, as long as shes not hurtin him then he will be fine. cats will only allow you to go as far as they want, so if hes not tellin her to behave he prob jst likes it lol.

Re: My Daughter wont stop...

i had a kitten once and it was playing in my garden and 2 old ladies stole him we saw one of them bundle him into a car and just drove off. he wasnt a special breed but was a DLH tabby and only 15 weeks old. we lived in the country at the time and had a lovely enclosed garden with lots of trees that he loved to climb and he wouldnt go beyond the gate
