Hi

Don't forget their 'thumb' on their front paws as easy to miss (dewclaw). I would cut the back claws as well as they do get sharp and if they climb up you, they really do dig in and scratch!

I cut all my cats claws myself - I find the special scissors easy to use. I do trim the back claws, but not very often - they don't seem to grow as fast or sharp as the front.

i did cut the inside claws. these were the reasons i cut them coz they were gettin very long and i was worried theyd grow into his skin. i didnt do the back claws will have another go 2nite, only trimmed a little off the front as i wasnt too sure. been watchin some videos so i think next time will be better lol

I still haven't done Poppys. I got the little pink curved cat cutting scissors but don't quite get how to use them to be honest!

It's very scary! I did attempt it one day after cutting several pieces of paper and cardboard!

Then as she lay sleeping I tried to find the first nail in all the fluff but by that time she was awake again. She is very fiesty little girl!

OH has offered but I feel this something I need to do, especially as her nails are razor sharp. I am such a wimp.

Do you guys have indoor or outdoor cats??
I ahve only cut my cats claws once and that was when they were indoor... But I found they just used my furniture more as a scratch post afterwards!

Since they have been outdoor cats I never have to clip the claws, ocassionally have to do the ''thumb'' claws but rarely need to.

mellowma: have you had a look on youtube? i only knew how to do them coz i watched the groomer when i took Sheldon a few months back. i looked on youtube last nite and googled how to cut cats nails and you get a lot of good videos lol.

luckily for me sheldon doesnt mind at all, good luck

Sheldon is an indoor cat that enjoys goin outside for several hours aday lol.
because he only spends time in the garden his nails dnt get much wear unless he has a mad hour outside. the only reason i dne them was coz his inside nails were curling under as they grew, and im gettin a kitten on friday so need to protect her
