I have a pure white odd-eyed deaf 8 week old kitten and I am in love. Need advice!

I am the proud new Mama of a little white odd eyed kitty, he has one green eye 7 one blue eye both very vivid in colour.

We already have 2 10 year old cats (male & female) and decided to adopt a baby to add to the family. There were a lot of young lady cats around a year old at the rescue we loved (it was a rescue for kittens & their mothers) but we really felt our two oldies would accept a tiny one better than one their size. I definitely think we were right about that, they have been mildly annoyed at baby so far but nothing like the hysteria we would have had if we brought an adult cat in the house.

Anyway! Some questions. Firstly I havent been able to name him which is driving me mad. I was thinking Kaleid, short for Kaleidoscope because of his eyes. But it doesnt come out of my mouth easily. Or some reference to his beautiful eyes! I found a lovely Turkish quote about odd eyed cats "eyes as green as a lake and as blue as the sky". Also I think he is very elf like, I mean he seems to have 3 paws in the magic world and one paw in my bed! So something magical maybe? I really dont know.

Now some questions as its been 10 years since I had a kitten!

How long should I confine him to my bedroom? I dont want to overwhelm him with the whole house at once (its a bungalow)

He is litter trained but needs help remembering where it is kept we have one in my room one in the conservatory for the other two cats.

He is deaf as a post. How can I help him? We noticed last night when the lights went out he panicked and was mewing and running around like a loon so we left a small light on for him. It makes sense if he cant hear he will depend extra on his sight.

He wont be allowed out. Our 2 cats are indoors but go outside in a huge run thing for outside time. When he is settled in he will join them in that but not be allowed to roam wherever as it wouldnt be safe for him.

What else do I need to know?!?! I love him!!!

e know how to get him to stop walking across my blooming laptop?!?!?!

thank you he is WONDERFUL and I am so happy.

How much should he be eating? The lady at the rescue fed him on adult dry food and wet food 3 times a day. He wolfed his wet breakfast down and now is begging for more, hasnt eaten much of his dry food. Are his teeth too tiny? Should I give him more wet?

What wet food are you feeding him? Things like whiskas and Felix only contain 4% meat. Of course it's a personal choice and there's nothing really wrong with these brands but a lot of people on here feed 50% plus. It's possible it's not filling him up. Personally I use Hilife and tesco luxury/tesco finest foods (yes the cats eat better than me lol). The tesco one works out only a little bit dearer than whiskas. Hilife also do a special kitten food.

Is he eating the same biscuits that he was at the rescue? If they are different he may just not be used to them and you could get some of whatever he was eating before and gradually mix the new ones in.

Hope this helps a bit

thank you. The lady at the rescue said he should be fine on whatever my adult cats eat. They have dry food, usually Tesco and whiskers wet or Tesco wet (not the finest believe it or not I cant even picture seeing Tesco finest cat food! Will look!)

Congratulations! I love odd-eyed white cats.

There is a rare breed from Thailand called the Khao Manee which has odd-eyes, and they have just been imported into the UK. You'll love the pics...

Do have a look at this page:
The Khao Manee Cat Club - Deafness in White Cats Genetic Research
DNA swabs (easily done) are needed for a research project into deafness in white cats - from both deaf and hearing ones, of all breeds & moggies. Would be nice for your new kitty to help!

I think there's only two boxes of it, one chicken and one fish. The luxury is the same. The finest is much more expensive though! They also do one called just nature, they are individual foil trays but again only two flavours, one's lamb & rice and the other turkey and rice. Aber loves those and they are 22p each

I would be happy for him to participate! It would be exciting. I would love to know what breed he is, if any. His Mum was at the rescue she was brown striped.
