Vaccination advice needed

hi all

we are going to see 2 Oriental girls at the weekend but they are only vaccinated against flu and Panleucopenia Virus, not leukemia and chlymidea. They will be housecats, not going outside. should they be vaccinated agianst these as well - should this affect my decision?

thanks for any help

Re: Vaccination advice needed

If they are definitely going to be indoor cats with no access to any cat that goes outside then FeLV - Leukaemia isn't necessary and a good vet would confirm that. Siamese and orientals do seem to have a sensitivity to that particular vaccine and you can get lumps on the back of the neck that take ages to go.

I have read that the Chlamydia vaccine is less effective than the treatment nowadays, so I personally wouldn't worry about that either.

If you are worried about either or change your mind and want them to have outside access, then there is nothing to stop you having certainly the leukaemia vaccine separately to their regular booster for flu and enteritis. It certainly shouldn't affect your decision to have the kittens if they fit the bill in every other way.

Re: Vaccination advice needed

i have my 2 indoor cats vaccinated so i can put them in a cattery, they are not done for chlamidia as if caught is easily treated with antibiotics, i was advised by my breeder not to have the cats vaccinated for lukemia, and if i did to have it done in a leg, cpz they can live without a leg, but they cannot live without a neck!

Re: Vaccination advice needed

as long as they will be indoor cats, if you want the other shots you can get your vet to give them it at their next booster shots

Re: Vaccination advice needed

Thanks all - this has helped. They will definitely be indoor cats and I don't really want to ever have to put them into a cattery - although that brings another quetsion of what to do if we go on holiday. Another thought for another day

I will let you know how the visits go - we are seeing 2 breeders at the weekend
