What killed my cat?

Hi everyone,

Just signed up, hoping for some advice as it's a bit of a sad morning for me.

I woke up this morning to find that my 4 month old kitten/cat had escaped. After searching everywhere i finally found his collar at the end of the garden, shredded to pieces with blood on it, i also found a few remains but that was it, nothing else, no fur, no body parts etc

I'm extremely sad over this and have no idea how he escaped, maybe through an open window, i don't know. But what i would love to know, is what could have done this? I live in London and my fence is about 8 foot high.

There is a fox that roams the area scavenging through peoples rubbish, could a fox have done it? As i doubt a cat would have shredded the collar like that and eaten the whole cat.

Thanks for any advice,

Martin

What a terrible thing to happen. I am sorry. My money would be on a dog.

Re: What killed my cat?

I'm so sorry for your loss It's never easy to loose a pet, especially in such a traumatic way!

It does sound like a Fox kill though. We have one that regulary kills rabbits from the fields at the back of our house and they leave the remains in a similar way to the one you describe.

Dogs usually kill and leave unless it's a feral.

But it is unusual for a fox to take a cat unless it's starving and desperate. We have several that use our garden and have had outdoor cats for 17 years with no incidents. We've even seen them pass each other!

Ian.

Re: What killed my cat?

Hey everyone, thanks for the kinds words, means alot to me. I'm slowly getting over the shock now, i just don't know how he got out

I had a further look around the garden and found some fresh animal feces next to where i found the collar and it looks fox like. I also read that a fox could scale a fence 8 foot high quite easily, so i'm pretty sure it was a fox.

I've also spoken to my sisters friend who gave me the kitten originally and it turns out that she still has his younger sister that she is giving away and i've said i will take her! It will make me feel alot better knowing that i have his sister with me

Thanks again everyone for the help,

Martin

Re: What killed my cat?

What a horrible thing for you and the kitten. As everyone has said, sounds like a hungry fox taking advantage of a small animal.

Thinking of you at this awful time.
