maine coon kitten

Hello, new to the forum. I have just got a maine coon kitten she's lovely but when I've read through her pedigree she's only 9 weeks and it says they should be with their mums until at least 13 weeks of age. She's had one injection, I thought she'd have had the full course but she's due another in just under 3 weeks. She is doing all her poops in the litter tray but when it comes to peeing some are some aren't. She is eating and drinking well, very playful and full of confidence. Should I be worried about her age though? She weighs just over 2lb and to be honest for the price I paid I thought she'd have had the full course of injections. The breeder seems lovely though and I don't want to cause any upset by complaining especially if there's no reason to.

It is normal for kittens to get their first injection at 9 weeks, then you must wait another 3 weeks before the remainder can be given. Vets don't give the whole lot at 9 weeks.

I know that it's her age I'm worried about.

Re: maine coon kitten

well ideally they say kittens should be with their mother until 12/13 weeks but normally kittens are rehomed at 8 weeks - so nothing to worry about as long as he is eating well.

Re: maine coon kitten

Hello and welcome to the forum, would love to see some pictures of your maine coon, gorgeous big cats. One of my kittens had only had his first vaccine, i had to wait two weeks then get his second done, i think most breeders have both done and the kittens are homed at about 13 weeks usually,

Re: maine coon kitten

Was the breeder registered? Is the kitten registered with GCCF. If the kitten is then indeed she shouldn't have left the breeder until she was 13 weeks and had her full injections especially if you paid the going rate for a registered kitten - in which case the breeder isn't that "lovely" but intent of making a bit extra dosh from the litter!

Look forward to seeing a photo of your baby.

Re: maine coon kitten

She's going to be registered but she hasn't got the full paperwork back she will be posting that on to me when it arrives, all I have is a receipt and pedigree certificate. I thought there'd be a care sheet or something to say the routine she's used to when she was last flee'd and wormed so I will have to contact her again to find this out.

Re: maine coon kitten

She looks cute. Does the breeder have a prefix - it should be on the pedigree certificate i.e. my prefix is Ragscentricity so on the ped certificate of the kitten if would say "Ragscentricity Sam" (or whatever the kits name was.

Most reputable breeders will fully vaccinate their kittens, worm them, Frontline them (or Advocate/Stronghold), give four weeks free insurance and provide a kitten pack with diet sheet, food samples, and a few toys etc.

Re: maine coon kitten

it is a little odd that a breeder would let their kit go at that age. its ok for moggies but wouldnt want a coonie that young. love the pics tho
