Re: maine coon kitten

Has she got a website? Does she advertise pedigree MC kittens?

Ask her to provide photocopies of the parents' pedigrees. Has she a prefix? Does she belong to TICA, GCCF? If she does report her to them.

If she doesn't, and she cannot provide proof of pedigree go to trading standards. You paid way over the going price for a pedigree MC.

If you breed from her (which is inferred in your previous posts) you can only sell them as moggies or you are doing exactly the same as the 'breeder' who sold you this kitten.

Re: maine coon kitten

What you could do - if she has given you a pedigree - is see who are the breeders of the Dam and Sire of your kitten. If she is not the registered breeder of those cats i.e. she has bought them in - you could trace the dam's breeder and ask them if she sold her as a breeding girl or a "pet" (non-active) to this woman - if not then you know she is a BYB and not on the level. Same goes with the dad of the kittens - check out who the breeder is and contact them. It does all sound extremely suss!

Re: maine coon kitten

£500 with no papers?!

I paid £350 for my Maine Coon show girl who's from very reputable lines!!

If you can, I would stop the cheque & call her as this sounds very very wrong. Having a kitten at 9 weeks isn't a bad thing so much as it sounds like she has lied to you a lot. For £500 I would expect a 13 week old show AND breed quality Maine Coon with full vaccs given - has she any guarantee of show quality or is she selling high to tick an active box? I would seriously report her!

I would be very interested to see this pedigree you were given...

Re: maine coon kitten

She doesn't have a website. The pedigree contains parents, grandparents, great grandparents and great great grandparents. Non of them are missing. It says all their names, breed number and reg number and the colours of the parents and grandparents. It contains her name and address, cats date of birth, she's ticked non active register even though she should be on active, no GCCF reg number no name but does contain sex, breed number and colour. It's signed and dated but I need to leave my name and address.

Hi,

Thats a bit of a wierd kitten pack, what did she think you would need rubber gloves for? unless she knew about the weeing issue.

She is a lovely looking kitten btw. I would just get her second vaccination done at 12 weeks and get the vet to check her out. I would query the fact that she has put non active on the form if she agreed to let you breed from her. Also if she is GCCF registered from a GCCF breeder then Im afraid to say that the breeder has actually broken the GCCF rules. Kittens should be no less than 13 weeks old and sold with a full course of vaccinations.

Good luck with her, she is a sweetie!

Izzie

What if she is with TICA? Do they have similar expectations of their breeders?

Mind you - you only have to own a GCCF cat to be bound by the GCCFs rules, so in theory she's still in breach if she has only one GCCF reg cat, but shows and registers with TICA.

Hi,

Not sure about Tica, I show with them but don't know about their rules about registering kittens etc. But you are right if one of the parents are GCCF then they are bound by GCCF laws.

I am so sorry you have been ripped off. Whereabouts did you see the kittens advertised, was it a free ad paper or a kittenlist?

Izzie
