Cat Flap

Hi.
My cat won't/can't push open his cat flap, although he will go through when it's propped open. I've tried calling, enticing and pushing him through, but still won't go through on his own.
Any advice please??

Re: Cat Flap

He's 8 months. So do I just leave him outside staring through the cat flap window begging his master to open the flap?! Done that a few times but he just sits there. Do I persevere with it?

Re: Cat Flap

Is it a magnetic cat flap? Lottie wouldn't use hers because of the 'snapping' noise so we stuck the magnetic device down which I guess defeats the purpose but hey. I think cats learn that if you are willing to open the door for them, they will be less likely to use the flap. Keep persevering. Lots of praise and treats when he does use it. If he will go through it when it's propped open I reckon you're half way there. Good luck!

Re: Cat Flap

Have you tried pulling a feather toy through it? I did that with Jez when he refused to push it open and it worked, he got in and grabbed that toy in a matter of seconds!

I had a little help from catnip spray
