Re: jameswelbeloved samples

Hi cats are fantastic at fighting pathogens, but we won't start another carry on, Has any one looked up pet food recalls on the net? you would be amazed of the mistakes & accidental killings of our fur buddies by Pet food manufacturers, American pet owners are so on the button they insist this list is published.
I'm not saying everyone should make raw or use the most expensive food out there, the most big brand pet food company names, have been top of the recall lists.
All I'm saying is, don't just accept what is in the food, is as marvelous, as the adverts put out, for goodness sake, they push how wonderfull grain/cereal/rice/veg is, ok for us!!!! but we are getting the wool pulled over our eyes, it's cheap fillers for goodness sake, & they are charging us for it, put better quality meat in it & I would say oh! ok, buy that, (well may be).
I just wish if folk said to these companies look we want this, they may sit back & think it over, I bet, in a couple of years, such as james w/b, whisk... & such, start getting on the natural, raw etc band waggon.

Re: jameswelbeloved samples

with regards to raw food. how do you no if your cat is gettin a balanced diet? i wudnt no where to start other than givin him abit of chicken. i think thats why some ppl do feed their cats the crapper makes coz we jst dnt understand the difference, if you get where i am coming from there. id love to find a food sheldon likes with high meat content but the only one is a tesco one which works out even more expensive than things like hi-life.

also can you jst get raw from a butcher or do you have to find someone who specialises in cat food?

I think if you google it there are specialist sites who will send you out a food pack.

Re: jameswelbeloved samples

I could cry with all the conflicting information. Pet shops say dry is the best. Ive always used wet, with dry out in case they are peckish, but only this week found out how rubbish it was (felix/whiskas etc with 4% meat) my cat has 2 weeks left of her pregnancy and before i found this forum, she was just going to go on whiskas kitten food, now I am so confused and am messing around trying her with different things recommended here, JW kitten being one of them cos 2 pet stores advised that was better then wet, and been trying hi life for higher meat content.

I have to make a decision both for her and for the kittens. My plan was half and half, (wet and dry).

I am worried that cos they are moggies, the new owners wont be prepared to pay for the higher brands, so what do I wean my babies on?

You do what's right for you. I found my kittens, sorry, Mistys kittens took better to Whiskas Kitten I also found that when I talked to prospective owners about higher meat content some of their eyes start to glaze over. Some kept it in mind and changed over successfully, like you they will decide for themselves, no doubt.

You may have read my thread about Oscar, when I collected him he was on Morrison own make 4% cat food and Waitrose own make and Hi-life, so all I explained about not changing him over went right over the owners head.

Do what you want and what is best and for you.

Thanks so much Valerie you have been a great friend on here. I think I may write a care letter for their new owners.

This is a good site for info about raw feeding if you wanted to try it, its written by vet Lisa Pierson Feeding Your Cat** Know the Basi - it gives you all the info you need about cat nutrition and there are recipes too if you wanted to make your own.

You can also buy meat from the butcher (or supermarket) and add a supplement powder to make it complete and balanced, thats just another way of doing it. Mine have this sometimes, I get it from the Feline Future site Feline Future Cat Food Company - its also got a lot of good info about nutrition.

I don't know which site you've looked at with regard to buying ready prepared frozen raw meats - but this is the one I buy from Food4-Cats!, Just Food for Cats Nothing More! It is delivered frozen in insulated boxes for next day delivery. Nice wide choice of meats and they also do a taster box so you can try a variety of meats to see which yours like.
