Advice needed asap please :)

Hey, im new to these forums, i needed to get some advice on a cat. Ive always loved cats but unfortunatly never had the oppatunity to get one. I recently moved out and whilst me and my buddy was joggign one evening we saw a sweet cute beautiful cat, no collar. We thought nothing of it. The next day when going for a walk around 4pm we saw him again, we had a little sit down with him and hes so beautiful and friendly. We started walkign back when we noticed there was food left by the side of a bush which seems to be his terratory.

We figured maybe someone is feeding him? It did seem alittle odd, anywho we went for our midnight joj and as we passed his spot he came up to us, we was quiet suprised to see him still out, it had been 8 hours.

So we decided to take him in. We dont know if this is a stupid idea, we should really of checked first if he has an owner. Tomorrow we are going to leave a note where the food is being left saying we have taken him in and we will leave contact details incase he isnt a stray.

Do you think weve done a terribly wrong thing? I feel some what guilty taking him away from his hjome (even if he is a stray) but i couldnt just leave him out in the rain. We just brought him home and fed him lots of ham and cat biscuits (we bought cat biscuits the other day to feed the neighbours cat some treats - shows how cat crazy we are :P lol)

He has looked around abit and looked alil worried but now he seems kinder happy.. he has his tail up and never ran and hid anywhere, he looks happy. But this may be a sign that he has a previous owner? Or maybe he is so resposnive to humans because someone has been feeding him?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, we are about to go to bed so we will keep him in our room and hopefully he will settle down and sleep.

I do feel slightly bad and think i may of done a bad thing, i dont know. I will check up on this thread in the morning

Thank you, i will He seems so calm and happy, he isnt reacting as i thought he would being just catnapped lol, altho he keeps sitting on the window ledge so wether thats because he wants to go out because or just wants to have a look. I have to go out for a few hours tomorrow and im going to feel really guilty for leaving him on his own. Other than that he seems pretty happy, his tail is up and he comes up tp us for strokes and he's even been purring (altho i think in some cases purring isnt always because they are happy) But he rolsl on his back too which is a good sign of trust, but then is that also a sign that he is tame?

Anyway i best get to sleep, we will leave a note tomorrow where we found him and knock on some doors to ask if they are familiar with him/ is their cat.

I will keep you updated tomorrow night

okay weve decided to take him back to where we foudn him. He keeps motioning to us to follow him and he keeps going to the window. We are ganna drop him back off where we found him and tomorrow we will knock on a few doors to find our if he is a stray or not.

Its all very weird how he seems so non threatened and happy with us and ye he still motions that he wants to go out, so we cant hold him here under his will.

He's such a beautiful cat, i couldnt imagin someone would abandon him.

You could take him to the vets to see if he has a microchip?

As daft as it sounds..... Maybe he has lots of owners all that take him in for 10mins each day for a cuddle and he wants to go out before he misses his next fish supper lol. (hence the food left out for him) maybe thats one of his many owners sick of trying to keep him indoors for longer than 20mins

My last cat was a very outdoorsy cat, he would always be close to home...... but always outside, Dont worry about cats in rain, they will find shelter for themselves but if they have a home..... then its wrong to expect him to shelter himself constantly so if you find them. Slap their wrists lol.

You have done the right thing showing him care and attention, and i also think you have done the right thing letting him go if hes showing signs of wanting to leave.

I wish you all the luck with your cat And maybe if noone comes forward claiming him you can practice how it would be having a cat and maybe buy yourself one call it...... Rent-A-Cat lol.

It doesn't always mean they have a loving home if they are friendly. Two of the cats that we have were taken in as strays and both were incredibly friendly albeit very thin. Even though we put up posters and left descriptions with the vets, SSPCA and other cat rescue groups no one claimed them.

Re: Advice needed asap please :)

If you have any intentions of adopting this cat then first get a collar with a name barrel and put that on him. That way if he belongs to anyone they will be alerted to the fact that soemone else wants him and will be able to contact you.

I had a very nasty experience a couple of years ago when one of my cats, that I intended to breed later that year, from disappeared. I put posters out but no-one contacted me. A few days later she turned up spayed!! I was absolutely livid as you can imagine. It turned out that she had been "two-timing" for months. Needless to say all my cats are microchipped now, including the indoor ones!
