Re: cat collars

my cats 21 years old now and when she was younger (about 5 years old) we put a collar on her and it seemed to irritate her skin so we removed it and all the fur had come off around her neck and even now at 21 shes got a bald ring around her neck. although its no where near as obvious as it was, it looks more like a scar now!! and the collar wasnt too tight either! i personally would never put a collar on a cat but get it microchipped instead also it can be dangerous with them jumping up on things and the collar could get caught

Re: cat collars

That's what i've read that it can get caught as they jump.......it's better to be safe and not get one in my opinion.

Re: cat collars

Hi Trish

I wont use collars because they are dangerous.
What if the cat gets stuck in a bush by its collar?? You will never know and he will be suffering and may even die if he cant sort it out himself. And you would never know other than the fact he didnt come home. I wouldnt even trust these ones with the safety catch on them.
Even in the house they can be dangourous for the same reason. Ok you will see him but if you have been out all day he could have been like it for hours and strangle himself.

Also once my little cat got her paw stuck in her collar as she was trying to get it off. She was horrified by the experience and was panicking and of course was laying on the floor wriggling around

Re: cat collars

Good morning early birds I never use collars because of the bald patches they leave. My cats dont go outside anyway so its never been necessary to put a collar on them. If they did, I think I would go down the road of microchipping rather than collaring.

Re: cat collars

I used to have a flea collar on my black moggie boy but once he got to about 5 year old I stopped using it. He is now 15 years old, doesnt go out, but still has a bald ring around his neck after all this time, the fur has just never grown back. He would have been brill to take to shows in the household pet section except for the ring round his neck

Re: cat collars

My indoor cats are microchipped, just in case they got out or were catnapped! if a collar is really needed (for Reflective reasons) I would make sure it was quick release, but then they'd prob get lost, and would just be a waste of money so i'd def prefere to mircrochip.
