Do Bengals need to be brushed?

The breeder I am getting my kitten from said that she was told not to brush them as it damages their fur and can rip chunks of hair out so don't brush him. I'm not sure about it as I can't imagine never brushing a cat. Does anyone know if its true? Or are there special brushes for bengals or something?

Re: Do Bengals need to be brushed?

personally with my shorthaired cats i do brush them with a rubber mit thing or a soft pet brush especially when they shed and its also quite good for their skin. Cant advise on bengals though as my shorthaior is a mau cross but i would have thought they were similar

Re: Do Bengals need to be brushed?

I think its important to gently brush shorthairs from time to time, especially when they change coats, just to get rid of all the loose hair. They end up digesting it other wise. I use a very soft baby brush on my siamese and orientals. It doesn't damage the hair just removes any loose coat, plus they love it. It must be like being licked by another cat, a definite bonding session.

Re: Do Bengals need to be brushed?

I gently brush my Bengals as they all moult like mad, hard brushes will rip out the fir So soft and gentle in the Key helps you to bond to and they enjoy it when got used to it young!

Re: Do Bengals need to be brushed?

If you need a stronger brush than a baby brush (and at some point you probably will) you can use a (new!) toilet brush. It's extremely effective but won't damage the coat or scratch the skin like a wire brush.
