Hollidays

I don't have my kitten yet, but i want to plan everything ahead since i want my baby to be happy

I'm planning to go on hollidays in August, around then the kitten should be 5 and a half months....what should i do? what's best for him?

I could take him with me, we're going to my boyfriend's mum house in Portugal, but she's got a cat.....don't know if they would get on.

For a siamese, do they prefer to be with us or at home? I could get friend to visit him every day but i'm afraid he'll feel too lonely as we'll be away for 2 weeks

Is a cat hotel the best option? i think i would feel sick with worry!

Does he have a Pet Passport? Is he does - its better to take himn with you and keep him saparated from a new cat. He'll be much better - knowing that you are there around. He''ll definitely miss you...

Re: Hollidays

Don't take your kitten on holiday this will be very traumatic going on a plane etc...for the sake of it. Either get someone to come to your house and cat sit so the kitten gets to stay where he is used to or take the kitten to a good cattery.

Re: Hollidays

if your friend can not stop at your house, or family member then yes he will be lonely and distructive. your only option, i think, is a cattery where your kitten will be well fed and the tray cleaned and also will recieve fuss and care from the owners of the cattery.

you should now concentrate on visiting some catterys in your area, and asking questions of their owners to find a place for your kitten. i would do this if i were you.

Re: Hollidays

In my opionion it will be terrifying to take your kitten on holiday.

We are lucky as we have a family member that moves into our house to look after the cats and dogs - do you have anyone that can do this?

Not only is it peace of mind for the animals but also your house is not unattended for 2 weeks.

I have some cats that go outside but when i go on holiday they stay inside. Although my house sitter is very good, they wont look after the animals as well as I would and therefore I wouldnt want to risk letting them out when i wasnt there. Also its unfair of the housesitter to be responsible for letting some out and keeping some in (and getting confused). They will not be familiar with your routine and you run the risk of house cats being let outside by accident. I also worry about them leaving windows open too for the cats to escape so make sure you are firm about telling them about windows!

If holidays are gonna be regular then yes get him a passport and take him with-he'll be fine and if he's not a bit of rescue remedy will sort him,it's only Portugal -it's not a particularly long flight and he needs a bit of foreign sun too-it's hard work being a mad kitten ya know

Interesting! I always thought they would have to go into quarantine or something! LOL
You cant really take the cat to a hotel can you? Although I guess if you hire a private villa or staying with friends it ok. You would have to be careful not to let them out tho cos they might get lost?????

Its quite refreshing to think they can go with you tho! LOL

Maybe but maybe not-some cats love travelling, stopping in a strange place(cattery) could be just as stressful as he will have not long come from his breeder and got used to his new home and mum and then he'd have to stop away somewhere else possibly, and a 2hr journey in calm, safe environment isn't as bad imo
