Re: I'm so sick of my job!

I've been sucking it up and trying to deal with it for the past week.. Soon I won't have to work these hours and it won't be so bad!

If thats not you then you seriously need to get another job and stop whinging about this one. Im a nurse and i love old people as much as you lot love cats, i didnt become a nurse to clean up vomit, poo and urine and get attacked by patients, i signed up to give them care, but guess what?? Caring is doing all that and much much more. If you really care about the cats you wouldnt mind dealing with their bodily fluids. We all love the cuddly nice side to jobs but there is another side to the coin and you cant have it both ways.

Get over yourself and be thankful that you have a job, if you dont like it then quit and give someone that would love the job a chance to earn a living

Re: I'm so sick of my job!

I wholly agree, I worked with EMI patients and we all did our share of the more unsavoury jobs but it gives you a lot of satisfaction to care for an old patient as you would wish your family to be cared for. It was more than made up for by the pleasure you had when they had their lucid moments and went to give you a hug or thanked you for something you'd done for them. Its all character building, perhaps if you had a different attitude your work mates might be nicer, a lot of it is how you handle people.

Re: I'm so sick of my job!

I spent many years and many hours being a volunteer for cats protection doing exactly what you are doing now. I enjoyed every minute of the close contact I had with the cats. I loved it that much I am now a co-founder and trustee of our own animal sanctuary
If you dont like your job get a new one and let someone who would appreciate this job step in your shoes

Re: I'm so sick of my job!

I volunteered 5 days a week at the RSPCA and cleaning up after the dogs and cats was part of it! Poo, wee and the occasional sick! I did that without pay because I knew if I wanted to help out and if I love animals that much that I would do whatever I needed to. Only some of the time I would it be the nicer jobs, walk the dogs, play with the cats, talk to members of the public. I agree that you should find yourself a new job and let someone that really wants it have yours.

Work has been a lot better recently.. We've got a new employee who's really nice and I enjoy talking to her.

I'm extremely insulted with how rude you were in this post. I trust the people on this forum and came here to let off some steam.

Sure you didn't sign up for cleaning vomit either, but at least you get to work with patients. I don't get to work with anything but the fluids. I'm not complaining anymore though because I've realized that it's worth it for me. I really considered quitting and I decided against it. I'm not a quitter and I'm in this for the cats.

Regardless of me starting to enjoy my job, you really should watch how you talk to people. You really hurt my feelings with your post. You don't know anything about me besides the fact that I was angry with some bad days at work.. Sure I'll admit that my posts haven't exactly been flattering, but I came here for support, not for you to tell me to "stop whining".

Re: I'm so sick of my job!

I think it's a case of "you should be happy to have any job, in the current climate". Unemployed at an all-time high etc.

Everyone has crappy days and need to let of a bit of steam every now and then.

I would love to work with animals, I used to work in a kennels and loved it but had to give it up for a better paid job. I was however hands on with the dogs aswell as cleaning up poop etc.

Even if your job seems a bit pants, I am envious of you! Better than being stuck behind a desk day in day out!

Re: I'm so sick of my job!

Cleaning up poo, urine, vomit and snot comes with the job, as I'm sure you've realized.
I'm sure it is very rewarding for you to find a cat that purrfect forever home.

It would, however, be nice if your co-workers were more supportive and actually showed an interest in what they were doing. I could be wrong, but it sounds like some of the people at your cattery shouldn't be allowed anywhere near animals. Does your boss keep tabs on the daily routine?
