Cats and Boxes---A friendship of sorts?

I've been thinking about this for a while and it seem as though most cats actually enjoy being in boxes. I don't know what it is except perhaps a safe and comfortable place to relax in but my cat is nutty about them. If he sees a box, no matter how small he must go in. He must commondere it. He must chew on it and play in it till the message is that it is his box and no one can touch it. He even gets slightly territorial if you come near his box.

So, my question is is this sort of behaviour common enough for a 'friendship' (I don't mean friendship as actual friendship) to be got out of from the box?

What are your cats like with boxes?

My cat loved bags, if you left any bag on the floor she's go in there and chase her tail.

Fluffy loves boxes, bags and laundry baskets! I often have to turf him out to put my washing in!

Yep, delivery from zooplus, get everything out, ignore it, just jump in the box, typical. That and reusable supermarket bags, althugh it's great for transporting them about

Yep and we have quite a few of them around at the minute Damien's in heaven. He really loves the quite small airline box we have for the rabbit he can barely fit in it and it doesn't look comfortable but thats where he always sleeps.

Re: Cats and Boxes---A friendship of sorts?

My mum's cats love boxes but Smokey loves them the most. If you bring any box into the house, within 5 minutes she will be in it.

She goes crazy inside it, but she also loves to sleep in it

Doesn't matter how big or small the box is, mine is usually found sat in any new one.
