neighbours have left there cat behind
The family that lived across from me seem to have been evicted on monday this week, there were people changing the locks and the house has been empty since. However last night i noticed there cat sitting at the front door waiting to be let in. Seeing as that was wednesday that means the cat prob hasn't had any food since at least monday. it wandered off somewhere and i left some dry food on the doorstep and within half an hour it was back and scoffed the lot. I've asked around the neighbours and so far nobody has any contact details for the family so im really stuck about what to do. i hate the thought of the cat being out all day & night for much longer. My cat is not the best mixer and we can't really take on another cat so i dont know whats for the best. should i leave it a few more days to see if they come back for it or call the rspca now to pick it up? cheers guys

Re: neighbours have left there cat behind
Discusting behavior by the owners!
Yes call the RSPCA - but there was a terrible incident I read of once where dogs were left in an empty house and nothing was done by then until it was too late!! So keep a close eye on the situation! All the best! DT |

Re: neighbours have left there cat behind
thanks for the advice guys, I am def not going to leave it much longer. Tonight im going to try and find some contact details for them, if no luck tomorrow i will contact the RSPCA and hopefully they will find him a home that he deserves. One question will i need to catch the cat before they will come and collect him?
I will make sure his fed tonight again too. i am disgusted with them if they have abandoned him. I will update everyone tomorrow |

Re: neighbours have left there cat behind
I'm afraid the situation at the moment seems to be that all the rescues are full and have waiting lists, and people being evicted or moving into rented accommodation don't give themselves anywhere enar enough time to find homes for their pets. When I was at the vets last, someone called in wanting a home for their pet that day. I think often they try to sell the animal, which is understandable if they are hard up, and then when they find they can't sell it they have no time left to try to give it away.
Of course it is just possible that they tried to find the cat and he couldn't be found, I had to leave a cat for a couple of days during a house move once for that reason. I left food and water out for him and I went back for him, of course. I'd avoid the RSPCA though, they are too keen on destroying animals. Liz |

Re: neighbours have left there cat behind
If you call the RSPCA they will not immediately pick it up, they would wait to see if the family returned to collect it. Also if they take it in and it is not found a new home in s few weeks they would put it to sleep.
I would suggest the Cats Protection, or if you look on here - Cats for Adoption from Cat Rescue Centres across the UK, on Cat Chat - you can search your ares for cat rescue organisations and charities. What general area are you in, I am in Devon and with Cat Action Trust and we have a foster place available here if needed. |
