Should I let my cat outside?

Hi there, I'm new to this so I'm hoping someone will have some advice...we have a 11 month old cat and she has has been mostly indoors for that time. we live in a long row of (one story) terraced houses ... so there is no front yard just pavement and road out front. we do have a small walled courtyard out the back which she has been out in (on supervised vists). 2 walls of the courtyard are our house walls, we share another wall with a neighbour and the back wall of the courtyard is about 6 ft high and backs onto another neighbouring property and she has just started to jump onto this back wall. the problem is, while it is 6ft on our side and a reasonably easy jump for her, the drop into the neighbours yard is about 10 or 11 feet. Now she has no problem jumping down , but I am just afraid she wont be able to find a way back into our yard. She jumped down last night and because it was getting dark my husband had to walk around the block to where she was and get her. She is really starting to miaow to go outside again now and the first thing she does is jump onto the wall and try to get back into the neighbouring yard. There is no visible way (without me looking into the neighbouring yards) for her to get back up onto the back wall and back into our courtyard. I dont want to keep her indoors the whole time, but I also dont want her to end up getting lost! Any advice?

yes she is, I just don't know how she'd get back in (perhaps I'm being totally paranoid)..the drop into the neighbouring yard is about 10 or 11 ft...and I cant see any visible way that she could get back into our yard...but I'm sure there must be some way, since before we got Scout we had other visitor cats on that back wall...

Re: Should I let my cat outside?

I am pretty sure your kitty will learn to climb back up in time! One of our cats climbs onto the 6 foot trellis, jumps onto the blind over the front room and climbs up the wall of the house and in the bedroom window to get in again!! Of course he can't do it so much now he is 15, but they are surprisingly agile and can usually find lots of nooks and crannies to get back to you for their tea

My fat Lacey can jump a mile, surprisingly, with that weight.

however I am of the keep them in if ya can brigade as a rule.
If you want to let it out though, just do it supervised at first, even on a leash for a few times.

Thanks very much for all of your responses, I'm sure I am just being a little paranoid, I'd just hate to lose her is all!

My cats are house cats and are perfectly healthy and happy.

If you are that concerned about losing her, why not keep her in?
