Re: What kind of litter tray?
For a kitten ask the breeders what she/he is used to also what litter to get,but we use small shallow ones at first,and then we have hooded deep ones and deep open ones-different cats like different types of tray-but our hooded one is never smelly as it's cleaned upon arrival of dump/wee's and it's fine

Re: What kind of litter tray?
It also depends on how big your kitty going to be. My cats are huge - I've got big covered litter trays and deep litter pans (they're digging like a tractors!
)

Re: What kind of litter tray?
Niels should be able to tell you what he uses for his babies (I'm assuming you're getting one from Niels?!).
In my opinion it's best to start her with the tray she's used to. The advantage you get with covered litter trays is that they don't make so much mess - but I tend to agree with SK - I bet they're smelly for the cat. And they are much easier to 'forget about' because they're covered and you can't see how much they've been used. Mind you, we run into that problem because we change the trays 'as and when' (change of litter at least once a day and several visits to remove offending 'articles'). If you have a routine it won't be as bad.

Re: What kind of litter tray?
We do have the hooded ones here - as long as they are checked throughout the day they dont smell - trust me I had concerns of them being smelly for the cat so have poked my head in for a smell here and there and as long as kept clean they are great. Less mess in the house and somewhere private for the cat to do his/her business...or is that just my cats? They dont like to do it while they are being watched or can be seen!!! LOL
