Re: Some bad news : (

Thanks

He is 2 years this month, he was diagnosed at 7 months and collapsed after his neutering op and couldnt breathe ... it was touch & go for a while and every day I am thankful that he is still here

The vet seems to think it could be hypertrophic cardiomyopathy as she doesnt hear the whooshing noise with every beat so its important that we get him xrayed asap as he will need his meds changed if so.

I think Im unlucky with pets as my dog has just been diagnosed with elbow displasia! My first kitty is 4 and she has never had to go to the vets thankfully!

I'm not sure, Gizmo was already one year and a little bit before we knew anyway so didnt even think of an age limit. I don't see why it can't be done now but i'm not a vet! Our vets charge more for things too than others e.g. basic injection 16.50 most places 19.70 at ours but the scan is independant so i think it will just be what he needs done on the day? Ours cost 300 and something but not sure exactly. I was told 800 initially

Being born with it like Gizzy was should mean he can learn to adapt as he has known no different to his limits on what he can and cannot do. But as someone said (apologies for not knowing who it was) vets usually give worst case scenarios and so anything better than that is a great feeling. We were told being lethargic and a cough may show it's affecting Gizmo so if Sweep is otherwise his usual self I would say enjoy him and take his step as it comes.
This is baby Gizmo, hope it might give you a giggle!
Thinking of all your poorly little fur babies. Just an unfortunate coincidence, they'll bounce back.
Take care and keep us posted

Hey KK - Audrey has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy too, one side of her heart isnt working so the other side is doing all the work Our cardiologist has said there is no cure for it, the meds can only control it. Aud's now on 5 lots of tablets each day, which I know some people wouldnt want to do but no way can I have her put to sleep The meds are giving her lots of energy and she's so playful at the moment bless her. She was given 3 months a month ago, but I reckon she's going to be here much longer than that!!

Hope the PDSA help you out, and that your kitty feels better soon xx

Re: Some bad news : (

I rescued a little tiny farm kitten once who was only about 4 weeks old and had flu, i found her in my aunties jack russels mouth!!
When she went for her vaccinations they diagnosed a heart murmer but said she should grow out of it!
When she went in to be spayed at 6months they said her heart was enlarged and postponed her spaying, she went back a month later, again they said her heart was enlarged and she was tiny! We decided that we would have to risk spaying her as having a litter would have put extra strain on her heart.
Any way to cut a long story short my little 'Syrup' was spayed and lived a very healthy 17 years!!!!!!!! (she never did need any treatment for her murmer or enlarged heart, it was her kidneys that finally got the better of her)

I am not saying that this will be the case with your kitten but we can only hope and pray, i thought you could do with a happy ending story!!

Here is a picture of my very special little lady!

Thank you for replying, our vet said alot of cats have this but dont realise it? I remember reading about your Audrey a while ago and I never put 2 and 2 together, I was shocked when the vet told me and have been trying to look for some info on it. I'm glad she is doing well, she sounds very happy & active!

I must admit Filou is always out running around like a crazy thing and sometimes it worries me but its who he is at the end of the day so as long as he is happy He is on 2 tablets a day but they treat heart murmers so I hope we wont have to wait long for his xray, I sent a letter off to the PDSA today so fingers crossed they will xray him soon.

He was also diagnosed at 7 months and I was told he may not make it and if he did the quality of life wouldnt be the same for him and thankfully they were so wrong! He is 2 years now and more active than hes ever been!

Thanks again for taking the time to reply, give Audrey a hug from me!
