Sorry to hear this Kim - Audrey's heart murmer has also gone up a grade but the medication is working wonders on her..........i really would try and get a cardiology scan done on his heart so you have a clearer picture. I don't know how you'll do this though if he's not insured?

Yes i know the vet asked me if he was insured i said i was going to insure him after his vaccinations and microchipping purely because its alot cheaper i think there is a £20 a month difference, i never dreamed of taking him for his 1st vaccination at 9 weeks i would have news like this oh well whats done is done he told me the scan would be around £250.00 ( which i'm prepared for ) lots of overtime at work but the surgery well .... i have no idea yet on the cost of that. X

Re: Some bad news : (

ey now don't think like that! My Gizmo has a level 5 murmur and I believe the highest is level 6. The original vet said he could live for years or die next week (evil moo) and was more bothered about getting him neutured while saying knocking him out could kill him??!!
So we went elsewhere. The new vets were GREAT. The listened to his heart for 15 mins solid all angles. They told us about the independant cardioligist (cant spell) and the price was around £200 cheaper than the other vets said it would be for starters.
My boyfriend decided to get Gizmo scanned and the vets booked it all, got a cancellation so we were there the next day. An hour and a half drive like but still. So the scanned Gizmo and all sorts to get a complete picture of how his heart was functioning. He was a good boy too and didn't need sedating.
Anyway he has a small hole which causes the high pressure and so the swooshing rather than a beating noise from his heart but no medication or an op is needed nor would it be beneficial given his condition. We were told he is compensation very well and is fine. Just has an extra good listen at the vets when he has his check ups.
He even fathered 11 children (randy so and so but this was before we knew about his heart, we are not irresponsible, all the kids are clear).

So please do not worry, Gizmo is proof its not a disaster and each vet has different views so yours may be the more miserable one like we has at first!

Sorry to hear about sweep

My vet has also suggested a heart xray but they are telling me it would be £450!

Like you I was waiting until he was neutered etc before getting him insured but it happened to my boy so early on and didnt have the opportunity, I really dont know what we are going to do.

Yeah we seem to be going through the same thing atm! I asked my vet if he can be xrayed awake as its risky putting him under but they wont say definately one way or another, she did say it would be cheaper if they didnt use a sedative.

As my OH isnt working at the moment I have applied to the PDSA for help with the costs of his heart xray and they sent a letter back today asking me to contact them, so fingers crossed!

Aww hope the little un feels better soon x
