Question Nervous Kitten

Hi, my sister has just adopted a 10 week kitten from some neighbours down the road from her-he is healthy and very cute but is a little nervous of people he isn't of her existing cat (who has already accepted him even tho she only got him last night ) and he is also quite aloof, he follows her around but doesn't like being held and has yet to purr
I know it is very early days but will this change as he settles or will sis have to accept that he isn't going to be another lap cat like she had hoped.

Re: Nervous Kitten

It will prob take time for the kitten to settle in to his new surroundings.

It just takes patience and alot of play time to build up the trust lol :P

As for being a lapcat, every cats different. I hoped my first cat would be a lapcat but shes not really the cuddley kind lol :P

Re: Nervous Kitten

it will take time but your sister will have to accept that all cats are different and she might not have such a cuddly cat. My cat prefers to sit at my feet but I do pick her up all of the time - she hates it lol

Re: Nervous Kitten

Thanks for the replies, just what I tried to explain to her-our mum has 3 mog pusses and none of them are particularly cuddly 2 run off most of the time when any one walks in and the other, Beaumont a huge tabby tom, sits on the arm of the chair for fuss but when he's had enough he gives a yowl and a swipe!!!! (the only time he jumps on your lap is when you are on the loo )
My sis reports AJ (short for Ajax) is getting better he fell asleep on her lap for a while but has still yet to hear him purr

haha ... One of my cats is like this also, very loving until I try to pick her up then she sulks!

To the OP, all cats are different but try and get your sister to hand feed him/her bits of chicken or treats firstly and not to try and pick him up just yet. Its a good way to build trust.

Re: Nervous Kitten

I have a cat that is now 3 years old and it has been nervous ever since it got fixed, some say that we got it fixed too young but I haven't seen anything to show that fixing a male cat too early could cause something like that... either way, the cat avoids new people and even probes around everywhere it goes, it never looks like it's comfortable enough to just relax...
anyways I got a new kitten and it's the cutest thing ever I hope it doesn't turn out the same way, check out the pictures at timlara
