Cat Flap

Has anybody had a cat flap fitted into a glass door? We are going to get a microchip cat flap and get it fitted into the back door but was wondering if anybody else has had this done recently and could give me a rough cost for the glaziers?

Thanks

Re: Cat Flap

Hi. Single glazed doors are quite easy. It's the double glazed ones that cost. Ring a couple of glaziers out of your local Yellow Pages and they'll give you a quote. And make sure you get a flap that is made for glass.

I'm sure you've probably considered this but, if you don't have a suitable door to use, you can get cat flaps fitted into solid walls. I have heard that this can be the cheaper option that trying to fit one into double glazed glass. Just thought I'd mention it.

Re: Cat Flap

Hi.
Speaking from experience, cat flaps can only be fitted in double glazed units at the time of manufacture. The same goes for toughened glass.
We had a cat flap fitted in our porch window (between the porch and the house), its is not toughened, but it is thick textured (obscured). It cost us £40 to have it fitted.

I tired a few 'cat flap fitter' types, but read bad reviews on them. They were also quoting me in the region of £100 to have it fitted.
In the end I phoned a small local glazier that came out to do it the next day.

For those of you looking at mircochip cat flaps (brillant idea) I have the pet porte one in the wall into my porch (between the porch and the garden), but I was planning on having that one in the glass, however one of the cat flap fitters told me that one can't go in glass - so you may want to check that out. I believe the sureflap microchip flap will go in glass though.
