Hi my first post after lurking a few weeks but i could do with some advice,please.

My cat is a rescue cat we have had her for 13 yrs. 5 yrs ago she had an operation on her teeth, mainly cleaning but 1 removed. Anyways she came back ok but a few weeks later she started this sneezing problem. It can be really bad and although its been going on for a good while nobody seems to have any ideas about what is causing it, yes for 5 years, many trips to the vets not to mention the amount of vets fees we have paid.

The first time we went i mentioned the fact it was only after the operation that this sneezing started they were saying it might be the after effects of the tubing used. So it sort of stop, not as often but then it got worse so she went back again, course of antibiotics and injection later the sneezing had got slightly better. Few months later back to square one. Again another vist to the vets,injection and tablets and then the vet says its because she had cat flu and its reoccurring, well i am almost sure she has never had cat flu.

She has since been back again another injection and tablets which are so hard to give her and she hates us doing it we stopped them last year and then it dawned on us the only real thing that has happened since she had her op was we moved could it be something she is allergic to? If so any ideas as to what it might be (crystal ball might be needed here,lol.) i think i really mean is anyone else cat allergic to anything, is there such a thing in cats?

The worse bit is it has become 'normal' for us all to wipe her nose for her and off course there are times when we dont want her near because of it, that sounds horrid we aren't nasty to her shes a cat and cant help it but it can be really horrid very much like a human with a very bad green nose.

Saikou, thanks for them ideas. To be fair to the vets she goes on average 3-4 times a year, one did mention about a sample being taken but till i read it in your post i had forgotten about it. Mind you it should be on her notes.

The only thing we have sort of worked out is there is a difference if the heating is on, but its on at the mo but shes not sneezing bless her or should i say yet??

I am going to google the things you have mentioned to get a better idea.

l-lysine, found someone else had a thread on these forums in 2008 and they say it is added in some dried foods, maybe this is why she is more sneezy at times compared to others? Seems you can buy it in holland and barrett, is that so? Does anyone else use it for this?
