Re: New Kittens are a little unwell
Gorgeous babies. I love black cats, so Bear is very special. Bean has very pretty tortie patches, very symetrical. I love her white bib and feet - and she's going to be a big lass judging by the size of those ![]() They look very healthy in the pictures, I am sure these health issue will pass and you can get on a enjoy them both worry free.

Re: New Kittens are a little unwell
Dry food isn't very good for cats - far to many carbs which they can not digest and because it is a dried biscuit and they are not programmed to drink sufficient to counter act that, they leave them in a permanent state of mild dehydration which can lead to all sorts of health issues later on in life.
If Bear doesn't want the dry, then RC probably do a wet version of that which he may prefer. If you look online, you can probably find it there cheaper than the vets sell it for. The green poo doesn't sound good but that may be because of the wormer. If you have to go back to the vet again, I would ask for some prokaolin or protexin. Both probiotics and they help with the runs. If Bean's snot starts to thicken, she may need antibiotics. I am sure there is something else they can be given to help clear the mucous, but I can not remember what it is. If the snot thickens then her sense of smell will be compromised and that may put her off eating so its important to try and stop that developing further if possible.

Re: New Kittens are a little unwell
Hi Bear could need worming and you could try Pro Kolin which you can buy on the internet for the up set tummy,Bean needs some antibiotics (Synulox ) and you will only get them from your vet, make sure she's drinking plenty.I would let them eat what they will while they are not well, the last thing you want to do is stop them eating, when they are well cut the wet food down they will eat the dry food if they are hungrey.

Re: New Kittens are a little unwell
Right, heres an update if anyone is interested:
We have had the kittens 8 days now and been in close contact with the vets. Bean is feeling much better and is running around like mad with her brother. They are both eating and drinking well although he still has diarrea (they're favourite foods are salmon and chicken). They have both been prescribed oral anti-biotics and we're still giving eye drops (which in my opinion isn't working very well). One of her eyes has cleared completely and the other is very sore indeed as she has swollen eyelids. This doesn't seem to be causing her too much discomfort though. Both of his eyes are very watery. So, in general I am happier. One thing, however, I am struggling with is giving Bear the anti-biotics by mouth. He is very wriggly and just doesnt seem to want to open his mouth! I have been wrapping him in a blanket and me and my gf are teaming up on him with her holding the syringe and me trying to open his mouth but i just can't do it for a lenth of time long enough for her to squirt it in. I am a little scared of hurting him and im sure my technique isn't proper either. Most of the time its just got his gums. Anyone got any tips on doing this? We can do her fine - it goes straight down! |
