On monday afternoon my kids came running in to tell me that biggles my black 10 year old moggy was acting weird and dribbling. He had been hit by a car,all his claws had been ripped out and his pads badly damaged,he was very aggressive and was biting and scratching.I got him into a box and took him to the vets.He stayed in over night and the vet called in the morning to say he had a fit during the night, but had no broken bones.I brought him home,he had a fit as soon as i got him home, and a really bad one at 5 o clock this morning,i took him back to the vets and they gave me diazipan(3 a day) to stop his siezures,The person that hit him left him on the road and didnt even bother to look! i have two other moggies that live out and i am seriously considering keeping them in.I have lost 2 other cats this way.Has anyone else had similar experiances as with biggles? i dont know if he`s going to get better or if i`m going to have to have him put to sleep.

Re: cats and cars.
Oh, poor little thing, no advice I'm afraid, our cat was hit by a car and had broken leg / hip and is fine now. I will keep everything crossed for you that Biggles gets well soon. So may people just don't look out for animals on the road or even care

Re: cats and cars.
Oh i am so sorry to read this Clare, and this is just one of the reasons I am so glad that all mine are indoor cats. None of mine are exactly scratching at the door to get outside as they have never known anything else.
I really hope he is ok after the bad experience, you could cat proof your back yard/garden with sloping mesh that sort of thing if you want to continue letting them outside confused:![]() |

Re: cats and cars.
He had a collar and tag on,if i hit a cat(god forbid!!)i would stay out all day until i found it,and also if i see a dead cat in the road(have done 3/4 times)i always check for a tag to let the owners know.Theres a lot of idiot drivers down my road,i just wish i knew who it was!!
my 3 black moggies are 10,9,and 8 and have always lived outside, while my ragdolls live indoors and go out in the runs. However i would quite like to bring them all in but dont know how my others will react, and it would mean quite a house full!! Last edited by clare7577; 02-04-2008 at 04:57 PM.. |

Re: cats and cars.
Im really sorry to hear that.
![]() One day my husband and I set off on a long journey, but heard a funny noise coming from under the bonnet. As it was a long journey we stopped to check it out in case we needed to go to the garage. When we lift the bonnet out jumped a black cat that must have gone to sleep on the warm engine the night before. He ran off! We spent 2 hours searching for him and cancelled our trip - eventually we found him hidden in a nearby garden shaking but otherwise seemed fine. I then spent another good hour knocking on all the neighbours doors till we eventually found his owner. He was fine ![]() I felt terrible for the cat - but much better when we found him and returned him. I wouldnt have been able to sleep until I had. So NO WAY could I hit a cat and leave it!!!! ![]() ![]()

Re: cats and cars.
Clare
So sorry to hear about Biggles. I've owned moggies and was brought up believing that cats need their 'freedom' (as many other people have). Both of my moggies were killed on the road. Allowing 'free rein' is something that has been drummed into us by our ancestors. Cats were first worshipped, then feared and despised, then used as pest control. It's only been a matter of a century or so that we have treated them as pets, but our attitude hasn't moved on from thinking of them as being wild rat catchers. We don't need to report a cat that has been hit by a car because, by law, they are still considered wild animals and owned by noone. Cats are perfectly capable of living indoors, and if they are brought up as indoor cats don't know any different and are actually averse to being in an outdoor environment. Now the weather is hotting up I will be letting my girls mill around outdoors, but in a secure environment with cat proof fencing. The only way to keep our little furry friends safe from cars, foxes, badgers, dogs, and cruelty is to keep them indoors. And the way we change the attitude to cats is by ensuring that as breeders, we only allow our cats to go to indoor homes. Just my take on things. ![]()

Hope Biggles makes a full and speedy recovery,Clare maybe keep them in or think about hubby building a cat run or buying one in Any more thoughts/actions on neutering/spaying your fur gang Clare??Last edited by Siamese Kelly; 02-04-2008 at 06:15 PM.. |
