Re: i have a pet plan! :D
First of all how fantastic that you are thinking about this all in advance and preparing financially etc, if only everyone were as responsible as you!
As people have said, most breeders wont let you buy a purebred if you intend to let it out, BUT alot of breeders will sell you cats that are not show-standard, and in honesty i believe its up to you whether or not you let your cat out once its yours. Its still a cat, and they still need outdoor time to hunt play and explore - they arent made to be indoor animals, and much as i understand the worry of them getting run over/stolen (I still panic everytime my cat doesnt come in when she's called!) i do think you need to overcome this fear for the sake of the cat. So if you intend to ge a british blue and arent going to show it, why the hell not let it go outside if you live in a safe enough area? ![]() In regards to introducing a moggy kitten to a british blue, there shouldnt be any problem - as long as you introduce the kitten after you're older cat is settled. We have just got a moggy kitten (2 days ago!) and introduced him to our 1 year old moggy, and they are currently running around the house playing like a right little tag-team! Our 1 year old is loving the company - though at first they will be wary of each other and hiss/spit, you just have to take your time introducing them and making sure they still get time apart with you, and the other cat doesnt feel like their nose is being pushed out. Most cats will tolerate if not become playmates, and very rarely in my experience will they remain nasty and uncompatible - they just learn to get on with it. Also in answer to your other point, im a teacher and whilst we dont have a cat-flap my older cat just uses a litter tray, and i let her out in the evenings when i get in. My boyfriend comes home for his lunch so the kitten we have just got has had all this week with me (half term school holidays) and starting monday he will still have that contact/feeding at lunchtime so wont be left alone for too long. The problem with getting a kitten is they need feeding so often, and you have to be REALLY careful what you leave out as they are into everything and can very easily hurt themselfs. We've made our study into a kitten room with toys, tray, food bowls, bed and taken anything away that could be harmful. Ideally get your kitten in the summer holidays so you have a few weeks off to spend with him! Good luck with it all - sounds exciting! |

Re: i have a pet plan! :D
awww i like how you have planned to get your cats. very responsible.
I'm also a teacher. When Olive was younger I would let her out in the morning when i got up and bring her back in whilst out at work. She would then go out again once i was home. As she got older i would leave her out for the day. She is ALWAYS at the doorstep at 4pm when i get home. I am very lucky that i know Olive gets on with all the neighbours cats and dogs (oh and the chickens and ducks!). And my neighbours look out for her too. Oscar isnt quite at the stage to be let out but i would like it if he could spend supervised time outside. I would say - expect to be working some long hours as a trainee teacher. And even into your nqt year. So you wont always be home early! Good luck xxx |

Re: i have a pet plan! :D
Which subject are you hoping to teach?
Apply as soon as possible to the gttr/gtp! Olive has only been across the road once to the best of my knowledge. She followed my boyfriend when he went to collect our food from the delivery man - the front door was out of use that day. My bf hadnt noticed she had followed and she never made it back! think she must've got very disorientated and ended up in a woman's back garden over the road! Was rather pleased to have her back! x |

Re: i have a pet plan! :D
I'm an English teacher, also teach drama to yr8. (though when it comes to drama i dont really have a clue - but we do have fun!).
It'd be worth checking with various providers whether they require you to have a GCSE in welsh or not. Or try the GTTR website, they usually give details of entry requirements. My friend did her PGCE in wales, the only thing she could say in welsh was: "I like..topshop/coffee/dancing" - all obviously worthwhile phrases! x |
