Cat flap in patio doors

Has any of you cat lovers ever had a cat flap fitted into patio doors? I want to get a small dog flap for my Yorkie put in our patio doors but was told by my window company that it would be very expensive??

Anyone any ideas (we don't have a proper back door).

If your patio door is double glazed it will be expensive as the door has to be resealed and the vacumn replaced, also the cat flap has to be sealed as well otherwise you loose the draughtproofing. I would get a couple of quotes from reputable companies. There is an alternative depending on how old your house is and that is to have one installed into the actual brickwork. Either way there would be a cost.

Yes I have been quoted between 200 and 300 pounds for a new glass unit with catflap installed, suffice to say I am going to see how we get on without a flap.

Wow that is a lot - maybe we need to stop being lazy and get up and down everytime Rocky wants to go in and out (not so bad at the moment with the warmer weather we have the doors open all day).

Yes we had been told about resealing the door - seems it's going to be too expenses - we could do it in the brickwork as we have a brand new house so the walls should be OK to do it but don't think my hubbie would go with that one!!

If you have a low window at the back its much cheaper to have that replaced and a flap fitten than the whole door panel. hope it helps x

Thanks but unfortunately we don't - we live in a new house that's long and narrow so the only doors at the back are the big patio doors in the livingroom leading into the back garden!! It's a pain............
